Food for thought
by: CCWhy do active members care about how rich the pnms are? I feel like its an unspoken rule that only rich girls get bids? How is it fair to not give someone a chance because of their parents income?

It is not so much if she’s rich, but whether she will be able to keep up with her dues. A lot of girls think they can afford it, but they end up dropping when the dues and other costs get to be too much for them and their parents to handle month after month. So, it’s safer for a sorority to offer a bid to a PNM who isn’t likely to drop just because she can’t afford it.

It's not really that big of a deal, but only seems so to people looking in from the outside. If you are an active from an affluent area, you are connected to pnm's from that area as well - school, church, family friends, friends of friends, etc. Of course you are going to want to have girls join your house that you already know or know about, and they already know or know about you. So it looks, from the outside, like 'rich' people will ONLY hang around other 'rich' people, but it's just because they are already socially connected and share the same extended social group, neighborhoods, lifestyles etc. They're not shutting people out, they just already have their group. If you are confident, poised, put together, and have good social skills, and you can afford sorority life and everything that goes with it, that's good enough. Nobody's going to not want you if you have all that going for you.
