Legacy policies

by:

I know houses don’t have to keep legacies but how long will they keep a legacy? Do they drop you quick so you can get over it and move on or do they keep you around and then drop you when you have less options?

No sorority will hold onto any pnm any longer than they have to if they don't feel she's a fit just because she's a legacy. If a sorority is still bound by their sorority's old legacy policy, then they must invite legacies to the first invited round. After that they can be dropped at any time just like any other pnm's. So many nationals have either dropped this courtesy entirely or changed it so that a chapter doesn't have to invite legacies to the first invited round if they don't have room on their list. And some nationals now simply allow each chapter to decide its own courtesy policies. Chapters that don't have to extend courtesies any more will drop legacies just like any other pnm, meaning at any time. With that said, Ole Miss is legacy heavy and chapters are going to be slow to change. TLDR; a house will drop you when the time is right, legacy or not.

Just to clarify, a legacy is actually from the same chapter and not just the same national fraternity/sorority (it's meaningless that your mom was a KD at Illinois State). But they already know if they are going to cut a legacy, because the legacy's mom and others have already tried to lobby them to take her. They are usually cut due to something bad they did in HS, pre-rush college, or grades. Or just a really bad fit.

No, a legacy is defined by all nationals as being an initiated member from whatever chapter and that is a binding rule for every chapter. Different nationals define which family members are legacies differently, and have different policies about the courtesies they must be afforded. Everything else you said is correct though.

To clarify MS is talking about Chi O. If you don’t like the way MS comments then you won’t like Chi O.

What if they are a legacy at state?

No big deal, just the same as a legacy from any other school - national policies apply. That is, if there are any national policies any more because they are changing sorority by sorority. A chapter legacy is really about the chapter connections which is the most important thing.

ChiO is just Ole Miss legacies, but everyone already knows that. So if you're not an Ole Miss ChiO legacy just smile when you go through the house, but don't focus on that one. DDD is also heavily Ole Miss legacy based but they'll take a couple of outsiders just so they can say they don't just take legacies. KD doesn't care about legacies, but you do have to have some kind of Ole Miss connection. DG does take legacies however non legacies have a chance but an Ole Miss connection will help. Kappa and Phi Mu tend to have a good mix of legacies and non legacies, instate & OOS. Pi Phi & AOPi are seeing Ole Miss legacies coming to campus and tend to be strong OOS sororities. ADPi and APhi are newer to campus and are good OOS sororities and are gaining status on campus.

This is the most accurate post of Ole Miss sororities to date.

KD and DG cared about legacies until last year when they each had to cut one that had strong connections to the chapter. KDs is an adpi and DGs is an Aphi.

If it is known that your legacy house isn’t interested in taking you then you will probably end up with an adpi or aphi snap bid

All the old sororities have been cutting legacies for years. There's just too many of them coming in. Some ChiO legacies are ending up in APhi because they are literally so weird no one else wants them. DDD and KD legacies end up all over the place. Although DG, Kappa and Pi Phi tend to take the DDD legacies; Phi Mu and AOPi tend to take the KD legacies. ADPi will get some of the spill over.

And for the record snap bids aren't generally needed anymore.

That’s weird because aphi and adpi for sure do snap bids.

By: Hmm

Snap bids are a thing for strong houses that were too selective early on and need a few PNMs to make quota.

Struggling houses don't do snaps -- you must be thinking of quota additions.

There are girls every year that don’t go to pref and end up in adpi and aphi.

Quota additions don't count against making quota. If a chapter can't match to quota they can snap to get who they want regardless of the quota additions. Quota additions are about the pnm's being assured a bid.
