letters of recommendation
by: Rec worriesTwo recs are a must as I understand it, correct? I know that it is better to get a rec from an ole miss alumna; however, if you have a family member who wasn't at ole miss but did belong to the sorority should you use that over the ole miss one? Certain sororities don't consider nieces legacies so it wouldn't count as a legacy. Also, how horrible is it to have recs from women who didn't attend ole miss? It's almost impossible to get 2 ole miss alums who know you well or at all to write for each of the many houses.

You actually only need one rec for each house. What you will also need is at least one additional letter of support. The more the merrier. Have the rec come from an ole miss alum and the letters of support come from those who know and love you. If you are a legacy, there are additional legacy forms to fill out. The recs are basically a form that needs to be filled out. The letters of support are letters written by other alums basically introducing you and letting the sororities they are willing to vouch for you.

Recs "aren't required" as I'm sure you know but they might as well be. You don't have a chance making it past the first round in one of the top 3 houses without at least 3 recs. The more you have, the more you stand out. Sure, Ole Miss alum recs have a little more weight but if you can get a few for each sorority, the rush chairs will definitely know your name. Don't be afraid to ask women you don't know very well. An average rec is better than no rec at all. Half of the women who wrote my recs had never met me and I went to the top three houses on pref.
#3by: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE
Please do yourself a favor and get more than one rec and multiple letters of support - often times, well meaning, and intentional alums will honestly forget to write your recs or letters. Make sure you have a back-up.
And good advice by "Recs" above. Please do yourself another favor and follow it!!
And disregard "???" above! I understand dirty rushing, but dang that's just brutal to sabotage a PNM in that manner. NO sorority girl in my house or the houses of my friends would ever do that! We'll all tell you crap about other houses and tell you our house is the best but never purposefully misdirect the process.

So one letter of rec from an ole miss alum and then additional letters of support? Is there a general number range for those support letters? 1,2,3? Also, is the letter of support just like formal intro, name, the pnm's qualities that the sorority would value...etc...? Sorry I just don't really know about the letters I support
