Spring parties at ole miss are mostly philanthropy parties thrown by the fraternities. They are huge throw down parties that make ole miss so much fun in the springtime. They are also ways for high school students to come out and meet actives before classes start the following fall. Unfortunately a high school student can't simply walk into a party without knowing anyone. That would be creepy! As far as sororities go, actives will invite girls from their hometowns to come to Oxford and check out the campus and will take them to the parties as part of a usual weekend experience. If you are invited to come and stay with a sorority active, these parties are a great way to meet other actives. It is also a way for the girls to prescreen pnm. Misbehave at a spring party and you will not get a bid! Happens every year. Fit in with sorority girls, if they like you, they will fight for you during rush. For a lot of out of state students, it is often the only way to meet a lot of actives. Top sororities have their favorite lists done before summer. If you are not on their radar before then, you are at a disadvantage. This is not true for all the sororities, only the top ones.
