rush

by:

Rush scares me... a lot! I have researched and talked to so many people about the process here and just when I start to feel that ok, I probably won't have a perfect rush, but I'll definitely find a home, I read this website's posts and lose any confidence I had. I am neither a legacy nor am I from Mississippi, but I am from Tennessee so from what I have read and know, my hometown is well-known in the Ole Miss Greek community. I guess what worries me the most is my reputation (or lack of one). I was not (am not) popular in high school, but I talk to a lot of people. I feel confident that I can get all the recs, however some will definitely be better than others because I will not know who is writing some of them very well, but I hope I'm not the only one who doesn't know an alum personally from every chapter at Ole Miss. My GPA is well above a 3.0, and I have a pretty solid community service and extracurriculars involvement record. The one thing that could hurt me I feel is that girls from my school going to Ole Miss know a lot of actives really well, and while they don't hate me, probably find me annoying or wouldn't help me out at all. I plan to go to several spring parties with some of the girls I do know currently at Ole Miss, but I'll add that I am not a party girl. Any advice from girls who rushed and were kind of in the awkward social limbo in high school? How difficult was rush and did you end up where you felt you should have? Thanks

You will do just fine! Every sorority is looking for a different type of girl. There are sororities looking for a girl just like you! The ONLY advise anyone can give you would be to be yourself and keep your options open. Sounds like you already know what you need to do. Have fun at the spring parties, and no drunken craziness and no boy chasing!

Relax! The OleMiss Greek life is so big I wouldn't worry about girls from my hometown and girls they know here-you probably don't want to spend your college years with them anyway! Each house here is amazing in it's own way, be yourself but remember to sell yourself also, you will find a place where you fit in!

You have absolutely nothing to worry about! Rush seems so intimidating and scary from the outside, but I promise it's really not. While it is nervewracking and stressful at times, it is a fun week where you will meet tons of people and take the steps toward finding a new home at Ole Miss. I would definitely recommend attending spring parties and preferably staying with one of the freshman actives that you know. Get all of the recs that you can, filter your facebook pictures for inappropriate content, and act interested at each house that you go to during rush. Try your best not to have your heart set on a certain house before rush. There's nothing wrong with having your eye on a few different ones, but I promise there is a method behind this. During my rush week, I was really leaning towards one house before rush, but rush week swayed me so much that I ended up going somewhere else- and I LOVE IT! This is so cheesy, but I promise that you end up where you need to be. Trust in the system, and ALWAYS maximize your options by ranking all of the houses that you receive back on your bid card. I hope this helps and good luck with EVERYTHING! XOXO
