getting a bid.
by: Wondering.Is it possible to get a big into a good sorority without knowing anybody in any of the sororities or fraternities? I really want to join a sorority at Ole Miss, but I'm from Georgia and the only college students I know attend UGA. I've never been to Mississippi, but I love the state and this school. And I don't want to not get a bid because I don't know anyone that's currently in a sorority here. Please help!

Its definitely possible! Just be sure to meet as many people as you can when you're visiting, and if/when you attend Ole Miss. Make as many connections as you can! Also be sure to get as many recs as you can. Gamma Chi's/Panhellenic can maybe help you there. Finally, good grades are a must- Below a 3.0 is not very helpful (just being honest). Other than those things, as long as you keep an open mind for EVERY sorority, and be yourself, you should be a success even if you don't have much experience here. My sister was the first to come here from my family (out of state too!), and did not know anyone and she joined a great sorority. Good Luck!

Huge numbers of OOS (out of state) girls got bids this year. With so many young women from out of state, every chapter has opened their doors to non-Mississippi girls.... some chapters more than others. KEEP AN OPEN MIND and go through rush willing to look at every house! A couple of recs to every house are really important.
