let’s (maybe) give aphi a break?

this is gonna be long; i’m sorry

ok i get that the vaaaaast majority of people disagree with aphi’s recruitment tactics. i do too. recruitment tactics, though, aren’t really picked by chapter members; they’re picked by nationals and alumni advisors. i know that i have absolutely no say in how my chapter rushes, so i doubt members of aphi have much of a say either.

when it all comes down to it, we don’t really control what sorority we end up in. all the girls who go through rush just want to be a part of a sisterhood, something bigger than themselves. and girls who go aphi shouldn’t have to work so hard to defend theirs. especially when what’s wrong isn’t even their fault.

idk man. do i think aphi needs to reform their recruitment approach? absolutely. do i think top tier sororities should stop their “dirty rush” practices? yes. there’s more problems with recruitment than just aphi. we all know that.

every sorority wants to seem “exclusive” bc they think that makes them more desirable. all of the “top tier” sororities are exclusive in regard to social/legacy status. if aphi wants to be exclusive bc of looks, let them. do i agree with that ideology? no, i think sororities should make selections based on less superficial things, and maybe that’s the reason why aphi and i didn’t click during rush.

one last thing! if you want to be mad, be mad at the organization, not the girls! don’t slander the organization on a website that only students use! email their nationals and exec boards! take down the problem at the source!!

recruitment (& sorority life in general) is going to be rly weird this year. can we all just be chill w each other??
