Rush Coach or nah?

by: curious

I've heard about a lot of girls using a rush coach for Ole Miss bc it's so intense, and I know several of my friends at other schools are using them too because it's a big thing there. Is it helpful? Recommendations on which one to use?

Yes, a lot of girls here use coaches to help get ready. It's super common. It really depends on if you feel like you need one or not. Just google rush coaching if you're curious and do some research. Don't work with them if they're not familiar with Ole Miss.

And use someone young, not someone old enough to be your mom that's bored with being a housewife lol

I guess if you’re socially inept, then go for it. I had no ties, yet still made a top house because I have basic social skills lol

If you are confident in yourself & your success, you don’t need to pay someone hundreds or thousands of dollars to tell you how to act in certain houses or what to wear. You will find your home or not. Do it authenticity

Is this what you'd tell your best girlfriend considering taking a sat or act class? To "be yourself" and be authentic? Really? I doubt it.

PNMs - if you feel like getting a coach of some kind, and you have the money to spend, a TON of girls here do, it's really up to you.

I used a coach and it's less about "how to act" in a house or "what to wear" although they did discuss those things. It's paperwork that needs to be done beforehand (like months before) and strategy and understanding the behind the scenes stuff that makes or breaks how sororities list rushees on the bid list and what increases/decreases your likelihood of getting invited back to the next round. Having now seen how recruitment works, I get it, and I'm glad I had one to help.

We welcome all PNMs whether they have been coached or not, and hope everyone chooses to whatever path is most comfortable for them as they get ready.

I did not use a rush coach and I did just fine. I am from the north, was not a legacy and got into a more desirable house. If you have questions, ask on this site using the same nickname and I will answer. As along as you are willing to prepare yourself for rush you don't need to spend $$$ on rush coaches. I know a lot of girls who used rush coaches though.

I used a rush coach, and as an OOS PNM who ended up receiving a bid to a top tier house, I was VERY grateful I did. First of all, I had NO IDEA it's all decided BEFORE formal recruitment starts. NO. IDEA. Girls turning in their LOR and LOS by May 1? I would have had no clue. It's just not a thing in my state like it is in the south, so I've since learned.

(Quick note for incoming PNMs: In HS I had tons of friends, was captain of my cheer team in HS, etc. so I'd say I'm not "socially inept" lol. I don't think any amount of rush coaching can help someone who's just not sociable in the first place.)

It's kind of like my ACT prep course. I went with a younger coach from Texas that has a couple different girls working for them and they paired me with a girl that used to be over recruitment at Ole Miss at a top house that I worked with the whole time.

She was SO helpful. I had no idea the info on the Panhellenic website was wrong and that everyone is sending digital packets these days. She helped me work through everything with RIF's and LOS's, and she helped me understand what to expect each day of recruitment. They were available to answer calls during recruitment too, which was also helpful. I mean...rush is already stressful, but this helped a lot. I don't think working with a coach is for everyone, but if it's something you feel helps you, just go for it.

Myself and my three friends all used the hiking in heels coaches and we had a good experience & ended up in several different houses we're really happy with.

The facts: If you're not social, getting a coach is not going to help you, much like if you're dyslexic or have ADHD, ACT prep isn't likely to do much in your favor because it's not what it's meant to fix. (I mean no offense to anyone with disabilities, I'm just trying to make a point here.)

It's more of a paperwork-type-prep course like the person above mentioned. They help you with RIFs and LOSs, and in understanding what you need to do and when to do it. They also help you strategize during formal rush week itself and come out on top because you know what's going on and how the bid list / ranking system works. Hint, it's NOT mutual.

I mean, It's not cheap, but neither is joining a sorority at Ole Miss. It's a drop in the bucket compared to overall sorority dues & expenses. If I had to do it again, I would get a coach, because sorority dues are too pricey to end up joining something you feel lukewarm about. I'm really happy it ended up working out for a lot of girls without one, but personally, I felt more comfortable working with one because I didn't want to risk having to re-rush sophomore year or risk a higher likelihood of being cut from more houses.

I'm happy to speak with anyone on here and answer questions - just address it to "actually" and I'll respond.
