AOPi, theta, and Pi Phi accept a lot of northern girls.
Kappa also accepts lots of oos girls as well!

Chi O would definitely be the hardest to get into if you are oos/northern. KD, Tridelt, Phi Mu, and DG may be difficult as well.

I know that DG cut OOS legacies over instate non-legacies. Girls on my floor was cut after first rounds.

It's unfortunate that legacies were cut the first night. However, no one knows why or how legacies are cut, and I know that other houses cut their legacies early as well. Obviously it's speculation, but I would bet that XO, DDD, KD, and DG have so many going through and have to cut so many each night, that they simply can't afford to give a spot to a girl they know they are cutting over a girl they actually will pledge (or try to). It's a fickle numbers game but I do feel bad for legacies that are cut from their legacy house.

counted 9 from northern states. Not insignificant, but not significant either. A few from CA. There were many from the midwest, mid-Atlantic, and South.

Phi Mu's bid list is already published. They took girls from over 20 different states! At a quick glance, it looked like about 10 were from northern states, but there were also ones from California, the mid-west, mid-Atlantic, east, all over really. Out of 122 new Phis, I quick counted about 28 from MS. I don't know how that compares to others, but Phi Mu definitely didn't shut the door on PNMs who are OOS. I'm Phi Mu at a different school and always proud of my Ole Miss sisters. Congrats on another great recruitment and on having so many states represented!

What in the world? are you saying we don't have culture and knowledge in Mississippi?

Remember when we are from Mississippi, (the worst state), it pays to bring in OOS people for culture and knowledge. Ole Miss is doing awesome with that. Don't hate on me either because I was born and raised here, and if you hate, you are proving what people say about us.

Mississippi is inarguably the worst state in the US. Every statistic imaginable backs this up. Do people from MS lack culture and knowledge? Not necessarily, but we have much less than other states. I mean I've lived here my whole life but let's face the facts. I'm not proud to be from Mississippi. No one should be.

I have no words.

Besides Ole Miss is a fairly intellectual sort of place, otherwise why would OOSers even be coming here?

...OOS students come here for the honors colleges... because the tuition is cheap relative to other schools... because Oxford is a cool little town... and Ole Miss is a "just-right-size" university... but honestly... academic competition is only enhanced by OOS students... cause MS high-schools... public and private... are mediocre at best...

Sad, but true. I've lived in MS my whole life and I love it to pieces, but we're the poorest and most uneducated state and a lot of students here perpetuate that fact. OOS students bring more money to the school and have a lot to offer.

I know some houses don't like OOS students because they're afraid they'll transfer, but doesn't it make sense to let them be a part of your sorority to give them a home so they don't want to transfer?

Anyway, it varies from person to person. Remember, not all PNM's are created equal.

still take much fewer OOS girls than IN STATE girls.

A couple of OOS girls in the pledge class does not make them OOS friendly.

Some say you can't go XO, DDD, DG, and KD if your OOS. Not true. It's harder to get into these chapters PERIOD. They don't take as many OOS because they don't have to. But if you are a top OOS girl, you won't not get into these houses because of where your from. If anything they fight with each other more to get the best OOS girls.

I'm an OOS girl and I had a fantastic rush. I only got cut by one sorority and that was right after skit.
I got bids from Chi O, DG, and KD.
It's not impossible to get into a sorority here if you are OOS, but you are at a slight disadvantage honestly.

Thank you OOS Girl! This is what we need to hear. Ole Miss is an amazing school and a great value, even for out of state students. So much culture, history and yet becoming more and more progressive. Anyone who bashes the culture really, truly needs to try somewhere else first. You might be surprised how welcoming Ole Miss is. Don't knock it if you haven't been elsewhere.

A high gpa from a ms public or private school is nothing compared to some northern mid atlantic schools. I am glad ole miss is marketing to students outside our state. We need them. Most kids from oos are really smart and bring a lot to the school. I am glad they join the greek system.

...know good OOS kids cut...private schools... boarding schools...honors college...it happens...maybe less than in years past... but things change slowly...that said...there's MUCH more to OM than being greek... not the end-all and be-all... as much of the commentary on this site clearly proves...
