Message to incoming freshman
by: A sophomore
I wanted to share an example and my rush experience. Rush is more fun, tiring, and competitive then you could ever plan for. I want to make it known and not because I got cut (which I one hundred percent did) I am “jealous”. I came from far and was not initially from the south our “connected”. With that I knew not to reach for tri delt, chi o, or KD. I had an older sister who was an alpha phi (which is among the top at many college where I’m from). So I went in wanting aphi. I stalked their insta and saw their gorgeous castle. Only to get dropped from them the very first day. And ladies let me tell you it was the biggest blessing. When I got dropped I wasn’t even sad. I HATED aphi my first day, and fell in love other houses like kappa, phi mu, and pi phi. My roommate became an alpha phi which is even more ironic. Now that I’ve been a student at Ole Miss I can tell you this, alpha phis instagram is extremely misleading. The way the sorority houses look DO NOT matter, and my roomate basically stayed in the sorority for the T-shirt. I came out with best friends in my sorority, and one hundred percent am so happy I didn’t go aphi. Later their were numerous scandals about aphi and I learned yes some are hot and rich, but some are not, and the name is not relevant on this campus.
The reason I’m targeting them so much. Is to not only give you an example of how going in with out an open mind can hurt you, but also to address the reality. The majority of out of state girls will now want aphi. They got a good pledge class, are “rising” to some, and have a good Instagram. But let me tell you, the girls are not close, not involved, and really aren’t all that once you get here. Take what you want but it needed to be said.
