rush

by:

I am starting at Ole Miss second semester meaning that I will not be able to rush until my second semester at Ole Miss, fall of next year. I am also coming from Massachusetts and am afraid that both of these things will really lower my chances of getting a bid. Will it be held against me that I am from the north? Will it be tougher to get in after already being there for a semester? Although I will still be considered a freshman when rush comes around next year

1) Register for sorority recruitment AS SOON as it opens up.

2) Before registering, make sure you have an updated resume with your gpa, extracurriculars and volunteer work. Don't freak out if you lack in extracurriculars or volunteering, just make sure that you become involved during your first semester.

3) You need letters of recommendation. There is no other way to put it. I came from out of state but I also came from the south, so it's very common for cities or towns to hold alumnae panhellenic meetings that give you all the details on letters of recommendations. Good thing for you, you're coming down to Mississippi.
Search for alumnae panhellenic associations around here and get into contact with them. Ask friends if they know any alumnae who could write you a letter of rec. You need at least 1 per house but 2 is probably best

4) Getting to know girls is probably one of the biggest things you can do.

5) Please keep an open mind. For some houses, your status and being oos may put you at an advantage. But keep in mind, this is Ole Miss. We have one of the most competitive and best greek systems. ALL of the houses are amazing.

My biggest pieces of advice are to make sure you get your letters of recommendation, keep your grades up(duh)
and keep an open mind.
