everyone stop... and be nice
by: to be sadly honest
I'm an active member in (according to these discussions) a top tier sorority.. thanks y'all. But I really just couldn't help to post my personal opinion after being in an Ole Miss sorority for three years..
If it wasn't for the massive amount of money (dues) I have invested since bid day, there is no way I would still be in a sorority. It is just another way to maintain a high school mindset with stereotypical cliques and social rankings.
A huge flaw of the Ole Miss Greek System is that chapters are wayyy WAYYYYY too big to actually have a true sisterhood that I envy other universities of. If anything, joining a sorority opens the door to more drama, criticism and leaves you highly vulnerable of viscous rumors. Because, while this site may seem like other sororities hate each other, I promise you there's way more conniving, backstabbing, and lying within your house. It's truly so upsetting because no matter how strong/ weak a sorority may be.... 500 girls will never be able to get along with everyone. And since the whole school follows these (apparently) permanent finite rankings of each sorority, it remains impossible to add more sororities.
With all of that being said: Even though Rush week was nerve wracking, Bid Day continues to be the happiest day of my life.
moral of the story: DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU! You will NOT be a social outcast, nor will you be anything more or less of a person than who you are right now. Loves Y'all.

Thanks for this. I have waited by entire life to be in a sorority. I have spent the last month envying my friends at other schools who have already found their letters. and NOW you tell me that there is no sisterhood in sororities?
Shame on you! Why don't you just let us discover things for ourselves and live our experiences without corruption from you.
#3by: Calm down
Shame on you? Really "way to ruin it" ? It's only corruption if you allow it to consume you. She's not asking you to take her experience into consideration, she's just sharing her personal dissatisfaction because for some new rushies, the negative and positive are both beneficial for their own successful experience. Besides, you're going to love it and hate it, so you might as well prepare yourself now. I'm In a sorority too and I can say with the highest respect to my sisters that it isn't all a "walk in the park." You will argue and fight and disagree, but that's apart of the entire sorority experience and something you should be aware of when going through rush. With all due respect miss, you have no idea what sorority life is yet, so don't put yourself on a pedestal, because you're going to be kicked off real fast in a few weeks. Rush IS what you make it, so pick your house for the right reasons and it should be a mostly positive experience. And I'm not trying to be aggressive with you, but you got too defensive too fast when you haven't even gone through recruitment. Greek life isn't going to be the most important thing you experience in college.....

I'm in a top tier sorority and I absolutely love it! It is everything it "cracked up to be" I came to school out of state know long three people and I have became so close with my sisters to where they will be my lifelong friends so saying that sororities don't have sisterhood is a bunch of bull!

Of course there will be drama! Do none of you have siblings in real life? Sisterhood, brotherhood, etc is not all rainbows and sunshine! There will be moments of hate, moments of love, fun times, sad times, bad times. It's normal! So don't be so framatic about it I mean geez nothing is absolutely perfect

I'm pretty sure she said that bid day was the happiest day of her life. Not that she was happy she rushed. She said if not for the financial commitments she has made that there would be no way she would still be in a sorority. Sure sounds like sorority bashing to me. This sister is putting down her entire sorority for their lack of sisterhood.
In a way she is ruining the experience for the new pnm's.
#8by: ha!
yes, my main goal was to bash my own sorority. that whole paragraph was just to let all the little rushees know not to pledge my sorority, not that the extreme pressures of making it into a "top tier sorority" make you more or less of a person. i know so many friends that cried their eyes out before skit night when they were cut from certain sororities..
"whats wrong with me"
"am i that unliked"
"no guys will like me if i'm in ____ sorority"
^^^^^^ that is what is wrong with ole miss sororities.\n\n\n\n\nHindsight it was such a funny joke to think that the girls reading this would find a positive message. OMG LIKE HAIL TO THE TOP TIERS!!! BECAUSE IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU WHILE IT DISPLAYS MY HALF-WIT INTELLECT
#9by: To OP
I didn't think you were bashing your own sorority at all. I think people got the wrong message here. You sound like an sympathetic person who was hurt to see your friends' being cut, and you're trying to tell the pnms that it's great to get a bid to any sorority at Ole Miss and that they will still be liked. Am I right?

Pledge classes will be smaller this year b/c of ADPi, so sisterhoods will become stronger as a whole starting now. That being said, it's all about mindset and perspective. It's what you make it. Just because one girl didn't get what she expected does not mean this is the case for every single sorority member. So calm down and go into rush with a happy heart and open mind
