how this works

Here is a completely honest post to explain how this really works and to answer a couple other posts.
The first thing you must remember is that when you deal with sororities you are dealing with young women, that in itself lends to a lot of drama. Girls can be fiercely loyal and incredibly mean when it comes to friendships. 97% of the posters on this site are female so they are going to love and defend their sorority while completely slamming others. It is kind of like school spirit, you hate and talk mean about your rivals, even though you may never have been there or know anyone that goes there, it is just what we do. And your rivals return the favor even though in your eyes there is absolutely nothing that could possibly be negative at your school. So any comment on here is from a slanted view point as 90% are from current sorority women.
Sororities at Ole Miss can be compared to designer fashion. Take a white cotton blouse: One from J Crew is $69. It is made of Cotton, It keeps you warm and dry, It fits very well. It is White and has buttons. Compare it to a designer blouse that is $189. It is made of cotton, It keeps you dry and warm, It fits very well, It is white and has buttons. The only difference is that certain people think it makes them better to wear the second shirt were really they are exactly alike and serve the same function. Sororities at Ole Miss are the same. They all give you life long friends, They look great on your resume, ( to be cont)

they give you opportunities to serve the community and meet people. Some people just view certain ones as designer, but at the end of the day they are all equal.
I would love to have the posters on here that are always stating that certain sororities get the most desired girls participate in some research. I would bet anything that if resumes from girls in each sorority, that did not state hometown, were viewed anonymously you would not be able to tell which came from which sorority. Every sorority has tremendous leaders, athletes, and smart girls as well as the complete opposite. The same goes for a photo line up, you would not be able to tell which sorority a girl belonged to just from her physical appearance. Every sorority has stunning beauties as well as those of us who were not so blessed. The reason some pnm are viewed as so desirable by some sorority is because girls in that sorority previously know her, but guess what if no one knows her in another sorority she is not desirable or a big deal. So the notion that some sororities get all the top desired girls is only based on their view of who Is desirable. Others may not have even heard her name and cut her first round. So those type statements are only self-serving to the ones saying them.
Lastly the notion that stereotypes are true is also very harmful to greek unity. I could go pull girls from each sorority that matched their supposed stereotype and pull just as many that were complete opposites (cont 1 more)

So to make broad sweeping statements as to what a sorority is like either good or bad makes you look both ignorant and naïve.
There is no sorority at Ole Miss that is better than any other. THey all have the complete spectrum of girls, and for anyone to try to state otherwise shows their shallowness and meanness. That being said there are BETTER fits for each individual girl, but not better sororities in general. Each PNM needs to go where they feel comfortable, where they like the activities they do, the causes they support, and where their heart draws them, but they need to do it based on their experience not what others have tried to sell on this website and through other tent talk. Just because one girl may love a sorority because she knows half the girls in her hometown are in it, does not mean it will be the place for another. But this does not make it a lower sorority. Good Luck to all I hope you all find a home.

Looks like everyone needs a reminder that no sorority is better than another and stereotypes are complete nonsense. Looks like people are trying to influence PNMs with the same old "we get all the quality girls" talk. One day all you girls who get on here and try to downgrade other sororities because of your own insecurities will grow up.

Especially true since cuts will be deeper this year to allow for ADPi to put in a decent size class. All PNMs will have to choose whether to be Greek or not. Sophomores, there isn't a Sophomore quota this year!
