northerner?

by:

I'm from Oklahoma and will probably attend Ole Miss. Is Oklahoma considered North to y'all? Would I be a northerner?

is awkward geographically and culturally. It shares as much in common with Texas as the Midwest and it's not even exactly agreed upon by geographers either.

I'm from Colorado, and they don't consider me a Northerner, they call me a "Westerner." You should be good here!

Texas is a geographic location unto it's self. Oklahoma is NOT Texas. Texans like to refer to themselves as southerners. Oklahoma is not exactly southern. It's more mid West.

Oklahoma seems to share more in common with the South than most of the Midwest though. Wouldn't exactly consider them Southern, but they aren't exactly Midwest either. Kind of grey territory there, like Maryland or maybe Kentucky.

Both Oklahomans and Texans consider themselves Southerners. We're not from the Deep South, but we're southern. We are definitely not midwestern!

I'm from Texas and I agree with the fact that Oklahomans are different than the Midwest.

I don't think Oklahomans are southern in the way of Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn etc. but like Texas a bit different

Some of East Texas is pretty Deep South, not too dissimilar to Arkansas or Louisiana. I'd definitely say Texas is more Southern than Oklahoma, but there is some Southwest influence in West Texas and a bit of Mexico on the border towns. Oklahoma is certainly far more Southern-esque than most of the Midwest, is often listed in the South geographically, and is more heavily bordered by Southern States than anywhere in the Midwest. I suppose its lack of involvement in the Civil War among other things complicates the question. South by Midwest maybe?
