round 2 of rush

by: PNM

I’m an out of state from Florida. I don’t know anybody at ole miss. I rushed and talked to at least 5-8 people in each fraternity. I was being outgoing and funny. I have only got invited back to 4 houses. Does connections and legacy matter than much?

Don't worry about the number of houses that invited you back. Focus on the houses that did invite you to come back for a second round. I am sure that you will find a group that you click with. Good luck

I was a popular guy in high school and knowing that these were the fraternity’s that did invite me feels weird. Are there cool people in small fraternity’s?

There are advantages to being in a smaller fraternity. Think about your high school experience. If you had 200+ guys in your graduating class, did you know all these guys? Probably not. Chances are you hung out with about 10-15 guys on a regular basis, maybe even fewer. In a smaller fraternity you will get the chance to know everyone. You will have the opportunity to make an impact as a freshman on the organization. Possibly serve in a leadership role your sophomore year. These opportunities are harder in a larger fraternity. I hope you give these houses a try because you won't be just a number to them.

Fraternity’s at ole miss can be very selective. They could like you a lot but if they see something like your grades or if you weren’t involved as much with anything they could not invite you back. It is definitely harder to get a bid if no one knows you. That’s why you should try to hang out with the fraternity’s as soon as you get to ole miss. People are always going to take sides with people they are familiar with vs someone they just talked too for 30 minutes. Greek life is overrated anyways from my experience.
