how do fraternity bids work at om?

by:

How does the rush process work for boys? They go to the houses and then what happens? The actives vote for them or the PNM’s pick which ones they like? Is it a mutual selection process? If you are OOS and don’t know many people is it hard to get in one? Are you guaranteed a bid at any point like the girls?

If you’re a legacy you’re obviously getting a bid. If you have connections and if those people like you, if it’s 1 person or 15 people anything is better than knowing 0 people during rush those guys usually stick up for you in the bid room when they pull up the picture of the guy and the people ask if anyone knows who you were usually the guys that liked you get up and vouch for you. If they don’t like you then they will say this guy is such and such. If you don’t know anyone and if you come into rush if they see you have good social skill, good grades, and if they really like the person you are that will be good enough to receive a bid. A lot of the fraternity’s have most of their pledge class lined up before rush so it is a little bit harder to get a bid in formal but it’s definitely possible. I’ve noticed some of the PNM’s don’t like walking up to people they don’t know and start talking to them.

Thank you for your response. On Bid Day, is there a chance of them getting more than one bid? Also, if you are a legacy from another school, and it’s not your dad, but an uncle does that matter?

What about top tier frats? Are legacies automatic? The legacy member is not from Ole Miss but is from another strong southern school with Jackson connections. Actually a double legacy. And the guy going thru rush is a super normal athlete from a southern private school. Is it really pretty much expected that he will get a bid if he parties the normal amount and doesn't do anything stupid?

Stop overthinking, You’re worrying too much. Rush is suppose to be fun. You go to each fraternity meet as many people as you can and know which fraternity have mutual interest in you and them. All this connections and legacy stuff just helps, but you can definitely get a bid from a good fraternity if you fit in.

Legacies don't matter much any more. In house sisters/brothers, yea, but otherwise it may not matter. Keep your options open! There are AMAZING frats and sororities that are not "top 3". Go where you are wanted and feel at home, not where your mom/dad went.

My son is going through rush and a lot of his friends have gotten pre-bids and he has not. Should he be concerned? Do most frats have the majority of their pledge class chosen before formal rush begins?

Lol I know you’re not a mom. Bro, they don’t give out bids until bid day. Just keeping on going through rush. You’re not guaranteed to get a bid anywhere.
