Are those girls eligible for recruitment this year? I still feel really bad for them.

My understanding is that Theta had initiation right after they were told that they were going to be shut down. The individual PC members had the option to initiate or not. Anyone who didn't initiate can go through again.

Thankfully, some of the girls who didn't initiate got picked up by pi phi and adpi. The others hopefully can pledge this fall. If I was initiated, I would transfer to another school to affiliate with a Theta chapter there. And, no, necessarily where it is top tier. I feel bad that they have no place to meet up at ole miss mow.

Transferring to another school because of Greek life? You are here for an education! Stupidest thing I have ever heard

I would transfer to UGA in a heartbeat. Better school, great Theta chapter.

I still feel awful for how the Thetas were treated. Fortunately, a number of other houses stepped in an recruited the uninitiated Theta pledges. I know Phi Mu did and I bet a lot of other sororities. We were told to find room for them from the Office of Fraternal Life.

aphi, aopi, and phi mu actually all took at least one theta girl in the spring. To me that shows actually how ridiculous it was that theta was treated the way they were when some of the girls ended up in good houses after the fact.

So, you think it's ok for those girls not to have a house to go to for lunch/dinner, studying, meetings, etc.?

Well, they are for sure not having meetings now, but they haven't stopped being friends with each other. Friends eat and study and hang out together. Remember before you were ever in a sorority and you did that?

If you think a house is just a pile of ricks, I bet you are not in a sorority. A house is a HOME. It is a place where you belong, where friends gather and eat together. You know how important it is for families to have dinner together every day or week? Same for a sorority. It is having a safe place to BELONG, where other people love you. It was their home away from home.

I feel terrible for those Thetas that do not have a place to call their own now.

And what about all of the campuses across the country that dont have sorority houses but have very active greek systems? Or have smaller houses where they cant host an entire sisterhood for a meal, to use your example?

Look, our houses at Ole Miss are houses are beautiful. But don't assume that because a physical house is gone that the sorority bond is gone, or that if a group doesn't have a house that the bond is somehow less than. That's just ignorant.

I wasn’t at Ole Miss last year, but I know Theta was shut down.
People keep commenting on “how Theta was treated” and how terrible it was.
Can someone please explain how they were treated? I’m just curious. I understand that when chapters can’t keep up their numbers, they will be shut down (since the chapter likely can’t afford to run itself), but I think it’s sad if they are treated badly..
