bid before fraternity rush
by: HmmmHow does this play out? Do I still go to all of the fraternities. I have been guaranteed a bid. I heard most fraternities do this before rush even begins.

You don't actually have a bid until it's in your hand, so to speak. It's wise to keep your options open. Sometimes there's that one guy in a house holding you out when everyone else wants to bid you. Who knows why. Don't sweat it too much, but don't cut everyone else off just in case.

A lot of fraternities play this game. They seek out dudes before rush starts that they really want to lock down. It would be a total d..k move to tell you that you have a guaranteed bid and not follow through. Fraternities don't have quota like sororities do. If you like the guys and they seem honorable, I am sure they mean what they say.

I would still keep my options open. My freshman roommate was told he had a bid. He went through the process anyway. Was glad he did because he found a group he also liked and his promised bid wasn’t there on bid day. He joined the other group and never regretted it.
