Why do houses cut legacies? Is it because of quotas or the pnm’s reputation? I’m a legacies and just curious.

Quota and grades most of the time, but if a PNM has a really “known” reputation for whatever, that is also something they take into consideration.

There are too many legacies going through nowadays. Houses could fill two classes at least with just legacies, so releases must be made.

Compete with each other to fill the legacy slots. No one has a set number they'll take, but you don't want more than 1/4 to maybe 1/3 of a PC to be legacies. So if that's say roughly 25 girls, but you have over a hundred legacies rushing then cuts have to be made. Some legacies HAVE to be taken because of who they are (often great girls, sometimes they might not have gotten in if it weren't for legacy status) but for the most part legacies are picked based on connection to the chapter, grades, then rep. Also for the traditionally MS houses I know for sure the rush team and advisors pick the legacies and the chapter doesn't vote on them out of respect for their legacy connection. So if your mad you or your daughter is cut just remember it wasn't a bunch of 19 year olds deciding. Others may work this way but I only know for sure that 3 of the OM houses do.
