public v. private
by: curiousDo girls from private schools historically do better during recruitment than girls from public schools do? Seems like girls from private schools might be better prepared for college and therefore less of a grade risk. Seems to me that every sorority active member I have met comes from a private high school. Is it their education that makes them desirable, or their daddy's money?

on your hometown or what public school. Girls from big public schools, Tupelo, Madison Central, Oak Grove, Brandon, etc. aren't going to be cut because they didn't go private because those are really good schools. If you're from a smaller town and went to a kinda crappy HS instead of a private school, or went to a kinda crappy HS in a bigger area instead of a better one (Like Florence outside of Jackson instead of another) then it could hurt you. Ole Miss sororities, especially the top ones, want girls from affluent families and/or areas. If you don't live Jackson/Tupelo/Hattiesburg/Laurel/Ocean Spring/Gulfport/Oxford you probably should have gone private. If you went private and are from those areas...even better.

That's what the private school system here is. We grow up together,see each other at ballgames,go to each others proms, and eventually attend college together. Basically by the time we get to Ole Miss we know each other very well and already have friends in the sororities so we usually get through rush with no problem. The downside is if you were not a "good girl" or stole someone's boyfriend in high school all our sorority friends know that too!
