help
by: HelpMy gpa slipped my senior year and it’s fairly low. My weighted is still somewhat okay, but I had a pretty bad senior year health wise (not mental health). I am healthy an my grades should be back where they were. I don’t want to seem like I expect pity for what happened. Should I mention this or reach out to Panhellenic board to help me with this? Should I not rush at all?

Hi!! If you don’t mind me asking what is your gpa?? Anything above a 3.0 (accumulative) you will be fine. Above a 2.8 (your in the yellow zone) and below that your in the red zone. I think it is worth it to rush. They will not look at your year by year GPA but your accumulative. And no I wouldn’t reach out to the sororities. Best of love and go Greek!!

Let me be REALLY HONEST. With hundreds of girls rushing, your excuse will honestly just get lost. Sure, you can explain yourself, but expect to take a harsh initial cut based on GPA—period.
I’m not being cruel, just direct and truthful.
So you have two choices—three actually. 1. Go ahead and rush and let the chips fall. 2. Work your butt off in the classroom, make friends in sororities and do spring rush. Or—3. build up an enviable GPA and rush as a sophomore.
Take your pick. And good luck in whatever you choose.

This is exactly the kind of situation where recs are VERY useful. Hopefully all of your rec writers are aware of your medical situation impacting your GPA and were able to explain that in their letters.
But also know that for some chapters a high school 2.8 will be too low to bid, regardless of the “why”. The good news is that chapters cut for grades first so if you start rush week, you’ll know by the 2nd round if you have any chance of getting a bid. BUT many chapters have a “once cut, always cut” rule meaning if you re-rushed as a sophomore with a great GPA they would still have to cut you again.
Are any of your rec writers REALLY familiar with Ole Miss rush? I would probably ask 1 or 2 of them for their opinion. I think you would probably have more options rushing as a sophomore assuming you get good grades this year, get involved, and make a lot of friends in sororities.

Just remember ole miss technically does not do spring rush so you would be relying on a snap bid from the sororities that give them. Last year KD XO DDD and KKG did not give snap bids.
