sorority houses at ole miss

by:

In the past few years, there has been a lot of ongoing construction to the sorority houses here at Ole Miss. DDD and DG recently finished extensive renovations which look great btw. KD and KKG are basically tearing the old down and building new houses. Both will take at least a year and are much needed as their houses can't accommodate the large number of members. Do XO, PM, Pi Phi and AOP have any plans to renovate in the near future? I'm an OM alum, excited for all of the girls who will have the opportunity to enjoy new and improved houses, and basically just curious. Can anyone shed some light on this?

As Greek life expands on ole miss campus, pledge classes will have to grow bigger even with quotas. The combination of ole miss having some of the oldest sorority houses in the country, with expanding numbers is leading these houses to either knock down their house and build a new one (KD) or renovate (KKG DDD DG). KD was only allowed to completely knock down their house because of the terrible flood it faced. The university has strict renovation and expansion codes the sororities must follow. But this is a very positive thing for Greek life at ole miss! This means it is growing and strong!

Greek life actually declined this past year. It's forcasted to decline. Primary because the school is taking in less and less people, secondarily because the GDI movement has been growing stronger and stronger.

These houses should have been updated a while ago.

It's like our football stadium, it should have been updated 4-5 years ago, updating it now when we suck and will suck for the foreseeable 3-4 years was not a good idea.

XO, PM, and Pi Phi houses are not that old and all look great. AOPI could use an updated, I'm sure they plan on doing so sooner or later

@hm that’s just not true. Anyone who rushed last year will tell you that more girls rushed this year than any year before. And anyone on council for Panhellenic will say the same.

@hm-You are wrong in so many ways. First, there is no GDI movement. Students have chosen to be part of Greek life or to not be part of Greek life for the past 100 + years. It's a personal choice, not some trend. Second, ask the girls and alums who are XO's, Pi Phi's and Pm's and they will tell you that their houses don't look great. They are showing their age and in need of an update. They haven't changed structurally in more than 20 years and can't accomodate the 400 + girls in each house.
