It will be just as competitive. Some people make the mistake of thinking that getting a bid from a colonizing chapter will be easier, but no way. You'll be interviewed by national officers and other alumnae, and they're looking for the strongest and best candidates. Nationals invest way too much into starting new chapters to just go for quantity over quality. You will need recs for them like you do other sororities.

Colonies also look for a good mix of freshmen and upperclassmen. They need both, and upperclassmen who already have proven records of campus involvement and leadership are a plus. Colonies aren't made up of rejects! Some women really want to be in colonies because of the chance to be charter members who get in on the ground floor of building a chapter, starting traditions, etc. It can be a great experience and one that looks good on a resume. There will be girls who drop out of regular recruitment, or end up getting released, who will try for the ADPi colony, but whatever got them released from regular recruitment might have the same impact when they talk to ADPi. Those who choose to drop from recruitment, maybe not so much, unless they dropped because of a "too good for" attitude about houses that invited them back. Some women won't even go through regular recruitment, but will just wait and try for ADPi because they really want the colonizing experience.

That's what I was thinking. Two questions:
1) would you think ADPI might look more personally at the girls? Like get to know them better than traditional rush does?
2)would that many upperclassmen rush for ADPI because they're probably already in sororities or Greek life might not be their thing. Also do you think they'll look at freshmen before they look at upperclassmen like the other sororities do?

First, when I said they won't go for quantity over quality, I don't mean they'll be small. Colonies strive to be comparable numbers-wise to others on campus. If nationals don't think a chapter can hold their own on a certain campus, they don't invest the time and money. I just meant that they won't hand out bids to everyone who shows up. Also, I'm not ADPi, so I'm speaking in general terms about colonies.

Usually, the interviews give you one-on-one, sit down face time, so yes, you should get your chance to shine in that situation. Another thing I've known colonizing chapters to do is put PNMs into groups and assign them a pretend task, like planning a service project. This lets them see how PNMs interact with others and what their strengths might be.

Freshmen will probably make up the biggest chunk of new members, but there will be upperclassmen. There will be some who weren't originally interested in being Greek but now they are, or maybe they transferred, but don't go through regular recruitment because they felt they'd be dropped due to class standing...but they see the colony as a great possibility for getting a bid. Others may have tried formal and did get dropped because they were upperclassmen. The reasons will vary, but there will definitely be upperclassmen pursing ADPi, though the majority will be freshmen. Strong upperclassmen are needed, but colonies also look for strong freshmen who can give four solid undergrad years to helping the chapter thrive. :)

Ole miss is excited to welcome ADPi! This is going to be a great sorority and the girls who join will have way more opportunities that you would typically get in an older more established sorority! Better chance at leadership roles for sure! Many of the girls who get cut from their favorite top sororities will join ADPi long before they will join some of the struggling existing chapters! This isn't meant to sound mean, but when you grow up hearing that its an embarrassment wearing so and so's letters, you get afraid to take a chance with them. ADPi won't have the same stigmas attached to them.

Your post started out so positive.....yay a voice of reason among the mean girls, then boom, there you go bashing houses that you call struggling. I suppose you mean those not listed as top tier on this website. Well... they are hardly struggling, they had huge pledge classes, have great sisterhood & are enjoying their college & Greek time just fine. As for welcoming ADII, we should, but leave it at that. You'd do much better to focus on the "finding innovative leadership girls" part than trying to "not be mean" & bring up "embarrassing letters"...OH, do you mean the stigma attached to say " having to close your chapter on campus?" didn't think so!! The only people who perpetuate stigma are the sheep that write nasty stuff about others to make themselves feel better & spend their valuable time trying to convince other sheep that it's true. I will bet that ADII will soon be filled with wonderful girls, but still a few will insist on calling them lower tier. Sad but true..however real life exists beyond this site so don't worry we will all be happy.
