just wondering

by:

Hi I am from the midwest and I was wondering which sororities actually take girls who are not from the south... I was kind of a party girl in high school and I'm not like socially weird or anything (if that makes a difference or gives an idea of what I am like). I have a 4.2 gpa on a 4 point scale, It is just higher because I took a bunch of ap classes and did well in them. I would only be able to get like one or two letters of rec in total that I know of. Thanks!

GPA doesn't matter as much as you'd think. Like if it's bad (below a 3.2) then that could mean getting automatically cut, but a girl with a 3.4 doesn't have a way worse chance than someone with a 3.9. Also, if I remember right sororities look at your unweighted GPA, not your weighted GPA. Pi Phi, AOpi, theta and sometimes kappa or phi mu will accept midwestern girls. With the others, its not impossible but its unlikely.

Oh also, you HAVE to get a rec letter for every sorority, or else you'll likely get cut from the ones you don't have. Contact alumni associations in your area to get rec letters from alumni, reach out on facebook to see if any of your friends parents went greek, and do all of this soon. The rec letters need to be written and sent to the sororitites, which takes time.

That information is NOT that personal... There are a million other girls just like her rushing too and those answers are pretty true^^

being out of state may not hurt you at some houses, but not having a rec letter definitely will.

Just keep an open mind, and you will find a home. Work on getting your recs. Those are important in all but one or two houses.

It's not being from the midwest that will keep you out of more top chapters, it's not having recs. Try to get them, with grades and a great personality top chapters would definitely look at you if you were endorsed by an alum!

Recs are very important! They are what get your feet in the door! Would you invite a stranger into your house that you have never heard of, or would you rather invite someone in who comes highly recommended?
