Except this is Ole Miss (which happens to have one of the strongest greek life's/ hardest rushes in the country) and the top here are DDD/KD/XO don't even try to argue

by: TRU Oct 30, 2014 12:27:52 AM

Ole miss only has around 16,000 students and its 30% greek. There are about 400 girls in each sorority and about 1500 girls go through. The sororities are selective, but not many girls get cut completely unless they did not maximize their options. KKG middle and Pi phi bottom. Theta needs to be kicked off campus at ole miss they have the worst reputation.

Ole miss has the best and most selective greek system and none of these three are top tier here.

UT and Indiana both have harder sorority rush and Bama has a harder fraternity rush just off the top of my head.

you're wrong. Ole Miss is the most selective and exclusive out of the schools you just named because they only have 9 sororities. Ole Miss cuts more girls after philanthropy than any other school AND Ole Miss has the highest percentage of Greek students on campus in comparison to the schools you just named so BOOM

Wait higher percentage in the Greek system plus a smaller percentage of girls getting cut in rush= more selective. Almost half get cut at UT and more than half get cut at Indiana. And Alabama is 30% Greek.

more? Indiana cuts something like 800. Alabama has the same Greek percentage as Ole Miss and is a larger school.

The most competitive Greek schools are selective in different ways.

The number of PNMs who don't get a bid at schools Ole Miss, Bama, and Texas includes a lot of girls who drop out because they would rather be GDI than take a bid from a house they feel is beneath them.

At Indiana most chapters require members to live in the house all four years. Each chapter determines its own quota based on the number of vacancies in the house. The top houses tend to be the smallest physically and therefore have the smallest totals. Many PNMs at IU who would happily take a bid to any house go bidless even if they make it to pref, simply because there are so few spaces available and they just weren't high enough on anyone's bid list. (On the other hand, it's possible to get a bid at IU without any recs.)

Indiana has the hardest rush in the country because they don't have to cut a certain amount of girls every round. Most get cut after pref.

Pretty sure the the OP "Top Tier" intended "selective" to mean that the school is selective academically to get accepted, NOT the Greek selectiveness.

Yeah it shows how dumb people are at this school. Also side note: Pi Phi is not good at most of the academically selective schools. Pi Phi isn't really good anywhere.

"best colleges" is right about that at William and Mary... and I think they mean regarding a selective admissions process. Kappa, Theta, Pi Phi, and Chi O are considered top here...

Well I was unaware that William and Mary had joined the Ivy League. At least put the correct schools. That said Harvard and Princeton don't recognize their Greek organizations, William and Mary isn't and Ivy League school, and only Dartmouth, Cornell, UPenn, and Yale are actually decent Greek schools.

I hadn't included W&M ut someone mentioned them above, so I added them to the bottom. Al lthe schools listed are traditional the top tier universities, you can't argue it. Then again you're probably just trying to bit-chy. Whether you deem them acceptable greek programs or not, that's which sorority is at which school. The end.

schools that don't recognize their Greek organizations aren't good schools for Greek life. Schools that have two sororities and have chapters of their fraternities like ADPhi go and decide they needed to be progressive by going coed (Brown) aren't good Greek schools. Yeah these are great academic schools, but some of them have completely unimpressive Greek systems. Harvard and Princeton don't recognize their's at all and therefore don't have housing or events, half of Brown's fraternities try to go coed and they have 2 sororities, and I've never heard anything that made Columbia's sound impressive. Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell and Penn all have pretty great Greek systems, but the other half just don't. Top academics alone doesn't give you a credible Greek system.

DEAR GOD ALMIGHTY I was not posting "credible" greek systems. I myself did not know OTHER sororities at any of these schools and the poster only mentioned PKT. So I then put the whole list out so that people could see what chapters were there in addition to PKT. And yet SOME EFFING BIT CH must complain about even that just for the sake of driving in their point, when it's not even relevant to what I was talking about. GOOD DAY.

Not true. Tri delt, KD, PiPhi, Chio , and DG are almost always somewhere in the top tier, atleast at southern schools. To prove my point..
Mizzou- tri delt, Chio, pi phi are top houses.
Mississippi state-Chio and DG are top houses.
South Carolina- tri delt
Alabama - KD and tri delt are top houses (chi o was too untill their string of scandals this year).
Auburn-KD and Chi o.
Arkansas- KD and Pi Phi.
Kentucky- Chi o.
Lsu- KD and Chi-o.
Flordia state- KD and DG
North Carolina- KD, tri delt and chi o

anyways this isn't to say this is true with every school obviously (PI phi is def not top here) But nationally I see these sororities as very strong and are very oftenly found in the top tier.

This isn't really true. It has more to do with each sorority's influence on the region. For example, Alpha Phi is commonly a top sorority in the north and in the west, but non-existent in the south. KD does pretty well in the south but has very little influence in the north. KKG and DDD tend to do well everywhere.

Neither here nor there, OK? What is here in Oxford is not the same elsewhere, Hallellujiah! So with that said, be proud of where you are here, get to know as many people as you can, volunteer, lead, and participate in swaps/formals. Not rocket science. U get iam not naming specific sororities? Ranking is only opinion and a waste of time.
