newsweek top 10

The list from the Newsweek article on what sororities annually give to philanthropy is relevant. Put your money where your mouth is. Facebook and Twitter likes are meaningless.

This is most embarrassing for Chi Omega. Chi Omega loves to boast they are the largest sorority with the most chapters - but they give nothing compared to the top national sororities!!! DG, Theta, Kappa, Pi Phi have strong alumnae groups all over the US, and have chapters at all the best public and private schools in every state and Canada.

1. Delta Gamma 792,000
2. Kappa Alpha Theta 695,000
3. Kappa Kappa Gamma 625,000
4. Pi Beta Phi 523,000
5. Alpha Omicron Pi 521,000
6. Gamma Phi Beta 498,000
7. Kappa Delta 415,000
8. Zeta Tau Alpha 384,000
9. Alpha Phi 343,000
10. Delta Zeta 282,000
11. Delta Delta Delta 265,000
12. Alpha Gamma Delta 235,000
13. Alpha Delta Pi 121,000
14. Chi Omega 86,000
15. Pi Sigma Sigma 79,000
16. Phi Mu 77,000
17. Sigma Kappa 67,000
18. Alpha Sigma Tau 54,000
19. Alpha Xi Delta 47,000
20. Sigma Sigma Sigma 41,000

the fraternities half of them had like 0 or really low on the philanthropy. It's almost certainly not accurate numbers, sorry to burst you bubble. Newsweek's lists were crap.

XO is not what it use to be at Ole Miss, too many legacies, no sparkle, no fun, homely is the new norm

that list is meaningless because it only measured one way chapters give money. There are many avenues that chapters give money....and volunteer hours.

GLO's generally don't report all their donations. These are based on self-reporting donations.

Since Chi O and Make-A-Wish formed an alliance in 2001, Chi Omega has donated over 8 million dollars to the Make-A-Wish foundation!! That is an average of $727,272 for 11 years (data is from 2012). The Chi O chapter that i am a member of donated $45,000.00 on our own in 2012! The Newsweek article was bad reporting ... period. A simple Google search was all it took to find this information.

I think these numbers are based off what each national organization gave through their national foundations, not what was given by individual chapters.

Newsweek got the information by confirming the information with each sorority's national office. The philanthropy amount was based on the amount of money the sorority?s non-profit fund donated to 501(c)(3) organizations according the most recent public filing (funds were normalized using a per-chapter ratio). Funds donated to individual chapters, classified as a 501(c)(7) non-profit social club, were not considered for this aspect of the ranking.

A pretty major difference though.

There are a number of great national sororities and as more out of state girls come to Ole Miss they will be very familiar with sororities besides DDD, XO, KD. This doesn't detract from those 3 sororities, but the difference between chapters is narrowing.
