out of state wants top national sororities

by: hillcountrygirl

Ole Miss comes to my school every year to recruit, they want Texas students to come to Ole Miss. With UT and A&M becoming very selective and accepting only top 7-10% of high school classes, more Texas kids will be coming to Ole Miss. And girls will want to pledge the top Texas and national sororities - Pi Phi, Kappa, Tri Delt, XO, Theta. No one pledges KD in Texas, Phi Mu does not exist, and DG is not strong.

Have said it better @yeah (above comment). First of all, if some of you Texas folk think that we Mississippians are so "shallow minded", I don't understand your desire to go to ole miss. Secondly, I can say that without a doubt that the big Texas colleges that you either could not get into or chose not to because you want to go to college with "shallow minded" Mississippians, have the same level of catty comments on their greek rank pages and the "higher" tier sororities put down the "lower" tier sororities just like every other college on this lovely site. (Quite sad actually that this whole sorority thing is suppose to be about sisterhood and greek unity.) Anyway, finally, I can also say that without a doubt MOST girls go into rush everywhere with an idea of what they want, and I repeat MOST but not all do this. Either they have friends in chapters, or heard who is "good" or "not" or they are legacies who either do or don't go that path. Some girls go in blindly not knowing much at all and some go through kind of seeng who their pledge class might be and then some go in totally open minded. All of these are fine! Bottom line girls: this is how we roll at the University of Mississippi, love it or leave it. Ps: same everywhere else too. Have a nice day :-)

KD has a few chapters in Texas - bottom tier at Tech, bottom-tier at A&M, bottom-tier at Texas, and their chapter at Baylor folded last year. Don't know anything about their chapter that just started at North Texas.

aren't exactly bottom tier at Tech or UT, A&M I don't have a clue on. Tech and UT both only really have maybe one "bottom tier" group and big middle and upper tiers.

because KD isn't exactly "top" in texas shouldn't scare away girls from pledging KD here. KD is a top house here with a a lot of history and is a top sorority at many southern and eastern schools. Greek life is a much bigger deal in the SEC than it is in Texas or in any other part of the country so honestly people should be focusing on what sororities are strong in the SEC because thats all that matters

isn't bottom tier at UT. i'm from austin and my sister went to UT so i know all about the tiers there. you have the big six (kkg,pi phi, theta,xo,ddd, zta) and then you have the middle three (axo,kd,dg) and then you have the rest (alpha phi/adpi/axid/aephi/sdt) so saying that KD is bottom tier at UT is stupid because they are middle tier.

is dumb... why are people comparing Texas KD chapters to SEC chapters? there are only three in Texas (two are middle tier btw)... and there are tons in the South that are all successful and top tier. everybody and their mother knows that KD is one of the best southern sororities... Ole Miss isn't in Texas.... it's in the south (where Greek matters btw). this is like beating a dead horse. stop trying to find excuses to bring sororities down.

The people posting here are obviously NOT from Texas. These are the rankings and they've been this way for years. KD is bottom everywhere in TX but to be honest, all the chapters in at TX schools are strong so it's not like being bottom tier here. KD is good in TX, just not the most popular.

UT:
KKG, PiPhi, /Theta
DDD/ZTA/ChiO
DG/AXO/ADPi/APhi
KD/AEPhi/AZD
SDT

A&M:
Kappa/Tri-delt/PiPhi
XO/ZTA/AXO/DG
Theta/DZ/KD/GPhi/ADPi

Tech:
Kappa/Tridelt/Pi Phi
ChiO/Theta
ZTA/AXO/APhi
DG/ADPi/KD

you realize Texas is part of the South right? The South isn't just the Deep South, and Greek life is huge and plenty Southern in Texas.

You got UT right except ADPi should be with KD, AEPhi, AXiD. Alpha Phi is definitely aboveKD and ADPi at UT.

A&M rankings:
KAPPA
TRI DELT
PI PHI
DG
AXO
XO
ZETA
DZ
KD
THETA
G PHI
ADPI

and to be honest... A&M greek life is a total joke so KD not being very good here doesn't really mean much

sister is a Kappa at A&M and she says the ranking are more like this:
Kappa/Tri-delt
Pi Phi/XO
Zeta/AXO
DG/KD
Theta/DZ
GPhi/ADPi

those are the REAL rankings. and your point about A&M's non-existent greek life is still valid lol

why do you wanna disavow Texas? We're one of the only Southern States with any money and you don't even want to count us lol? Come down for Round Up and tell me Greek life sucks here.

is only weak where Greek life is weak (Texas and the west) and KD is strong where greek life is strong (the south and the east) so you should be the one getting over yourself.

UT Recruitment is much harder than Ole Miss. The pledge classes at Ole Miss are huge, UT has 50,000 plus students and takes pledge classes of 50-60 each year. Getting into Pi Phi, Kappa, Theta at UT is much more difficult than pledging any Ole Miss sorority.

University of Illinois has the largest greek system, not Ole Miss. There are plenty of strong Greek schools outside the south.

Ole Miss has one of the best Greek systems in the country and I respect the hell out of them, but UT can go neck-and-neck with the best of the SEC, and to say Greek life sucks there or in Texas in general is ludicrous. And yeah some Midwest schools like Illinois, Michigan, Purdue, Northwestern and Indiana have monster Greek systems (Indiana's is even fairly Southern Greek-esque) and they go hard at places like Berkeley, Arizona, USC, and UCLA too. Plenty of good Greek life to be had all over the country

Indiana actually has the most competitive, cutthroat sorority rush in the nation. Less than half of the girls who go through get bids. Lots of PNMs end up bidless even though they made it to pref.

like 500 girls didn't get a bid at UT though. Indiana probably is the worst, but UT is right up there.

Some of you (especially the KD backers) are seriously ignorant or have never traveled anywhere outside the deep south. Have you ever been to OU, Kansas, Missouri they have huge Greek systems and their sorority houses are bigger and more expensive than any at Ole Miss. University of Washington, Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, Texas have larger Greek systems than Ole Miss with gorgeous sorority houses.

can't figure out why you didn't go to one of those schools?

Point is that tiers are in the eye of the beholder. Just because we have been at Ole Miss since dirt doesn't actually mean that my chapter is better than newer chapters. To be better we'd have to outdo everyone of you in everything. Old chapters are good for some people, new chapters are good for others. If you have to say you are better than someone else to feel good, I hope I don't know you!

Need to travel might need to stay off Ole Miss site if all you can say is negative things. Every school thinks their greek system is best but it all depends on what is best for you. won't waste my time arguing with '"need to travel' but larger Greek systems is strictly a numbers thing not better. People that have to constantly call others opinions ignorant might need to look at themselves. Ole Miss is known for a wonderful greek system although there are not as many sororities as at some schools that may be their choice. Hill country opened a can of worms with her statement. Recruiting is big in Texas because students do look outside the state for whatever reason, it is a large state with large student populations at the 2 main colleges and that may not be for everyone. Texans don't go to Ole Miss or any other college not in Texas just because they didn't get into a Texas school!!!!!!
