out of state wants top national sororities
by: hillcountrygirlOle Miss comes to my school every year to recruit, they want Texas students to come to Ole Miss. With UT and A&M becoming very selective and accepting only top 7-10% of high school classes, more Texas kids will be coming to Ole Miss. And girls will want to pledge the top Texas and national sororities - Pi Phi, Kappa, Tri Delt, XO, Theta. No one pledges KD in Texas, Phi Mu does not exist, and DG is not strong.

So you would pledge a sorority that is good in Texas but not necessarily at the school you attend???? if you want one that is good in Texas GO TO A TEXAS SCHOOL!!!!!! When you come to Ole Miss pledge what you want there not because it is good in Texas, besides Texas A&M greek system is no where near as competitive as most SEC schools, your analaysis of what texas girls what makes no sense.

I came to Ole Miss and pledged the sorority I wanted, but I made sure it was one that was strong in Texas and nationally. I know I can move anywhere and my sorority will have a chapter at the top public and private schools in any state with strong alumnae groups in all the cities. That's why I did not consider AOPi, Phi Mu, or KD.

I know SO many KD's here that are from Texas... People know that KD is an SEC sorortiy in Texas and that DG was founded in Oxford and that Phi Mu is in the south. Just like people here know that PKT (pi phi, Kappa, theta) are the best in Texas and in the west. Girls are not dumb, they're going to want to go the best sorority at their school (XO, KD, DDD) they're not going to want to go LOWER tier sororities (pi phi, theta) sorry but that's reality!!

Theta, Kappa, Pi Phi are best in Big 12, Pac 10, Ivyleague, Big 10, ACC, Big East - essentially everywhere but Mississippi, Alabama, Florida.

KD only has 3 chapters in Texas and two of them are middle tier. Everyone in Texas knows how strong KD is in the SEC and the south in general. plus if you don't go to school in Texas then why would you care if they're good there or not... people in Texas know how bad Theta and Pi Phi are in the SEC so don't think you're fooling anyone when you pledge those sororities and go back to Texas to brag about it...

Theta has about 4 really good chapters in the SEC, they aren't that bad, Pi Phi isn't big in the SEC though I agree there.

Phi Mu is a joke anywhere outside a few states. Girls coming to Ole Miss from out of state don't plan on living in Mississippi or Alabama after graduation.

Auburn - XO, AGD, KD, XO
LSU - KD, TriDelt, KKG
Texas A&M - KKG, TriDelt, PiPhi
Vanderbilt - Theta, KKG, TriDelt
Kentucky - Theta, ADPi, TriDelt
Georgia - ADPi, XO, Theta, KKG
Florida - KD, DG, TriDelt
Missouri - PiPhi, Theta, KKG, TriDelt
Ole Miss - TriDelt, XO, KD
Miss St. - ?????
Tennesee - ADPi, TriDelt, Phi Mu
The 4 AAU Universities with highest academics in SEC are Florida, Missouri, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt

Mostly accurate with a few adjustments:
Bama: AXO, XO, Phi Mu, Kappa, KD, DDD -- these are the top 6, and nearly everybody ranks them differently
UGA: ADPi, XO, Theta, Kappa, Phi Mu
UF: ZTA, DG, DDD
Mizzou: DDD, Pi Phi, XO, Kappa
Tennessee: DDD, XO, AOPi, ADPi (whoever said DZ is top tier below is on crack)

LSU's top tiers are KD, Chi O, and probably Tri Delt, with DZ and Phi Mu close behind. No idea who said Kappa was top at LSU but Kappa is solidly mid with Pi Phi. Also, there are LOTS of other inconsistencies here. If you want to attempt to make a point like this, PLEASE do your research.

Alpha Gamma Delta is also top at Alabama. They have a top 7 depending on personal preference - Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Gamma Delta, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu

Not anyone can get into a top tier sorority (XO, KD, DDD) at one of the most greek schools with the hardest rushes (Ole Miss)

Phi Mu closed its chapters at A&M and Texas years ago due to declining membership and inability to make quota and maintain houses. KD is bottom tier at both schools, and just closed its chapter at Baylor. AOPi - never heard of them - or Phi Mu - before coming to Ole Miss. DG has strong chapters at both Texas & A&M.

PKT is top and XO, DDD normally top too. Seems like DG, Zeta, are top middle at both schools. Not top but not bad by any means.

That's accurate to say. In Texas the top 6 are PKT, DDD, XO and Zeta. First 5 are generally top tier at most big Greek schools in Texas. Zeta is borderline top/upper-mid at places like UT and Texas Tech, and are solidly top at Texas State and maybe some others. DG is generally mid or upper mid at Texas schools.

referring to Texas schools in general or just UT? At UT I'd definitely switch APhi and KD, statewide that might be accurate.

Theta has some nice girls but is not a top sorority at Tulane - mid to lower to mid at best. Kappa and Pi Phi are strong and some would argue XO are top here.

It seems the only 2 comparable schools who place so much emphasis on Greek Life with ultra competitive recruitments are SMU and Ole Miss, except SMU has all the money, Ole Miss has none. Although people with money can by their way into SMU, they still can't buy their way into Theta, Pi Phi, or Kappa there. Same with Ole Miss, except anyone can go there. Rush is just as important at both schools. That being said, thank goodness for the out-of-staters that there is a sorority for everyone at Ole Miss, if they look past the stereotypes, and just enjoy the one they get.

ADPi is above AOPi at UTK. AOPi is very middle tier. AOPi is more earthy, granola. Still a great house though. Less tradition at UTK than at Ole Miss. Taking Legacies is not considered that great. ADPi, AOPi and XO are the legacy houses and all are middle tier. Most PNMs going through recruitment want KD, PhiMU, and DZ.

I'm from Texas. We do not want only pi phi, kappa, or theta!
Tri Delt and chi o are equally strong. We go into rush hoping for one of these houses.
We are not upset to receive bids to KD,DG, phi mu, or kappa because we also know this is ole miss and those sororities are also strong.
We do not, want pi phi and theta! There is no comparison between the chapters in Texas and the chapters at ole miss
