I know that each house looks for smart, involved, fun girls, but do some houses have more of a "type" that they look for compared to other houses?

This is just my observation...
ChiO- sweet, Christian girls. Not parties, usually rich, almost asleays southern. Smart. Girls you'll see leading bible studies
KD- rich, nice, connected in Mississippi, good grades, cute/hot, party
Tri Delt- they love their legacies, connected in Mississippi, a lot of rebelletes, kind of a mix between KD and Chi O because half are super good girls and half are party girls
Kappa- hot, fun/party, usually southern but not as heavily w MS girls. A lot more TN, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana girls, good grades. Some rebelletes and cheerleaders
DG- involved, TONS of cheerleaders, a lot of sweet girls but also a lot of party girls, lots and lots of Texas girls, good grades, have a very cute/sweet look to them
Phi Mu- lots of pretty pagent girls, not as hard on grades, PINK, have super genuine nice girls, lots of out of state girls but still very southern, have some cool wild girls, lots of diversity

IMO: Tri Delt is like a mix of Chi O and KD // DG is like a mix of Phi Mu and Kappa.

Thank you so much for an honest answer that wasn't degrading to any sorority's reputation! I'm so excited for rush and have an open mind for all chapters, can't wait to find my home :)

I personally feel that variable quota ruins bottoms houses chances to get a certain "type" of girl because they are flooded with how many bids they HAVE TO give.. It's not in any way that the girls who have them at the end of the week are left over from the other houses, its that those other houses rush HARD and so if a girl has a lower house and a middle/top house on pref she is more likely to choose the middle/top house. Because face it, were young women and no matter how shallow it seems status does matter to us, I know a lot of girls would go top for the status over bottoms where they feel at home. And with variable quota you're kinda hanging on for dear life during rush week and most people will take whatever they can get.
So the only time it matters how a bottom house does during recruitment week is when the pnm has multiple bottom houses and THEN goes where she feels most comfortable.
I feel like if we didn't have variable quota and weren't forcing girls into bottoms houses then they would have a chance to rise because they could have a "type" of girl they attract. I would like to see bottoms houses given a chance to make a name for themselves. Because just throwing a 300 person pledge class together may make your chapter bigger but there's nothing that really connects them which is why the drop rate is so high. Variable quota may be making the chapters bigger but they're just random and it really sucks not getting the sisterhood u wanted or being with girls like u

So when people try to make out adpi theta or Aphi to be better than one another, take it with a grain of salt. They all three get awesome girls and you can't put a label on them because they're pc is so big it would be dumb to generalize. So we can't say Alpha Phi attracts this type of girls or Adpi attracts this type because it's just not true unless the girls are choosing between those two chapters.
And most girls have a top & bottom, middle & top, or middle & bottom on pref. You don't usually have 2 of both. At least that's my experience and my friends experience

I disagree with variable quota ruining the bottom houses chances for a "type" of girl. The lower tiers and about half of the middle tiers are made up of out of state students. Those students are looking for a different perspective from college. They tend to be looking for diversity and the last thing they want is to be 'typed'. Some of those students don't even come here looking to join a sorority, they make that decision after getting here. It is a little easier to 'type' the upper tiers because they all tend to come from the same high schools, they were already friends before they got here and/or they are legacies to former Ole Miss students from the same hometowns. They could even possibly be related. The Greek life system is growing at Ole Miss and yes, the top tiers will become even harder for those Mississippi girls to get into. However that's not going to hurt the OOS sororities. As more out of state students come to Ole Miss the OOS sororities will become stronger and they will care less and less what the Mississippi groups think of them.

You are right- variable quota forces girls into houses. Hopefully the new houses will have their numbers up and will develop a type, In the meantime, Panhellenic will engineer rush, like they did last year.
But the purpose of variable quota was not just to boost new houses numbers...the top tier introduced vq so they could be more selective.

That is nonsense! The top tiers did not engineer variable quota. It's purpose is to bring parity among the houses, and it was voted on by ALL of the chapters in Panhellenic.

VQ is used for one reason; to bring parity to the size of the houses. Ridiculous to say it's for top tiers to be more selective because they already had top choice and always have.

KD wants insta famous girls who post pics daily. Literally, everywhere you go, have multiple pics taken so you can post the best one.

Yes, but if they didn't do that you would have to find something else to post about. So actually they are doing you a favor.
