oos (out of state) vs. oos (out of south)

There's a big difference between 'out of state' and 'out of south' in terms of chances with certain sororities. I rushed 3 years ago as an 'out of south' PNM. I was a legacy to a top tier house but from an area of the country where rush is pretty chill (no recs required, etc.). Anyway, I was completely clueless as to how competitive recruitment is in the south until midway through my senior year of high school, shortly after I decided to come here. Thankfully I had met a couple people during a visit and my resume and grades were strong.

I went into rush thinking I was pretty solid because of my legacy status. Found out afterward that I was very fortunate to have received a bid as many legacies, especially those 'out of house' get dropped. I knew my house was very 'southern' but didn't realize just how much so until I received a membership list the following year.

Here's how the numbers looked at that time:
43% - Mississippi girls
14% - Georgia/Florida
13% - Tennessee/Kentucky
11% - Texas
9% - Alabama
8% - Louisiana/Arkansas
3% - Out of South

These were the facts a couple of years ago and not much has changed. Is my sorority better because it's full of 'southern' girls. No, absolutely not. But, it was the one I had my heart set on, right or wrong, and it's been the perfect one for me.
