how is chi o considered top?

by:

Seriously, how is Chi O "top tier"?? I used to think it was because they had the highest grades but KD beat them out this year. I get why KD and DDD are considered top. Aside from
tradition-always-been-this-way, DDD has money and raises a huge amount for St. Jude every year and KD is a well rounded sorority that's very active on campus and smart. What is special about Chi O? I never see or hear about them around campus. I've been here two years and I don't even know what their philanthropy is. A majority of their girls aren't cute and look borderline homeless. I can think of so many "lower houses" that have more shining qualities. Someone please enlighten me on what I'm missing.

This is harsh but it's actually the truth. ChiO has some great girls but overall they're just not cutting it. DDD and KD do outrank them by leaps and bounds and houses that are considered "lower" do actually have more to offer and all overall more well rounded.

It's really just tradition. Chi Omega was the first sorority chartered on the Ole Miss campus. DG charted earlier on a different campus close to Ole Miss. Back then only the wealth and more prestigious families could send their daughters to college so I guess Chi O has been able to hang on to some of that prestige for well over a 100 years ago. Usually the first few Sororities chartered on any campus maintain their top tier spot unless something drastic happens. The first Sororities on the Ole Miss Campus were Chi O, Tri-Delt, Phi Mu, KD and DG. In that order except for DG, I can't find their charter date for Ole Miss. Those Sororities tend to have more active local (Mississippi/Memphis) alumni which provides more support to the Sorority, which encourages legacies. They appear more prestigious because tradition says they are.

As a PNM, I can tell you that it's only the Jackson girls I know who are XO legacies (if any) who think it's Chi O or die, but I think others are open minded & want to meet new people. After small group this week, we talked about when you get in a house where everyone is from your city, you didn't accomplish much and you only moved up to 13th grade.

It should read "only the XO legacies from Jackson might be XO or die, if any, but all of the other girls I know from Jackson are open-minded."

I preffed chi o and didn't get them and I've been upset about it since, chi o doesn't care about its ranking or anything like that. They fit their own mold and do their own thing and that is attractive to a lot of pnms. I'm in a house who is always caring to much about how we appear to alumni and it's made me sorority experience dull. Being in a top house isn't always what it seems like. All chapters have their issues. My chapter cares so much about our status that it is stupid, chi o doesn't and that's why they are a chapter for top girls who dgaf.

XO doing damage control! Next time don't be so obvious. Your actives were even disappointed in the average girls you had to take last year because of being legacies. LOL

"Doesn't care about ranking" "Fit their own mold and do their own thing". That's exactly how people describe Theta, and yet Chi-O is a top tier and Theta is considered a bottom tier. Makes sense.

This so obviously written by ddd..... we all know they had a less than stellar rush last year. Don't worry though, there are always plenty of judgemental fake "good" girls with Bible verses in their profile to keep it alive.

My opinion?

As the ole miss student body changes, which it is doing more and more, so do the tiers. Some on campus consider xo top tier. Alums definitely do. Others just don't and never will see it.

I am sure Chi O is a great sorority but I don't understand how they are top tier. People call Theta weird but seriously the girls I know in Chi O are weirder. If you picked them up and put them on any other campus in the nation they would be the Theta of that school. I guess Tradition speaks louder than actual substance.

And the theta of this school would probably be like the phi mu equivalent at any other school. Yall are too worried about tiers, who cares grow up

during XO rush, i felt so weird. I come from an upper middle class family. I'm not from Mississippi though. During my rounds at XO, they asked really odd and materialistic questions like "what do your parents do? where did you vacation this summer? I like your earrings, where did you get them from?" so yes. I would agree, they have money AND tradition at XO
