not sure

by: transfer

Ok so I will be a sophomore next year transferring from a university that is about the same size as ole miss but slightly bigger. Im in a sorority here and will be reaffiliating at the chapter of the house im in at ole miss (paper work and everything is done for it) the reason for me transferring is just because the tuition costs are significantly lower, however Im not from Mississippi or even the south so I will pretty much know no one coming into it....soooo is there anyone that can give me any insight to what ill expect? (both in general with ole miss and reaffiliating in my sorority/how adjusting will be)

Don't you think you should reach out to your new chapter about this instead of asking on here?

I agree with the above poster that you should talk with your new chapter and here are a few points:

1) Most close friendships are formed when girls pledge together so you might - not always - need to work a bit more to get to know members. Chapters are big so that should help.
2) What was it like when girls moved to your school and re-affiliated? Think about that.
3) Did you visit OM before transferring? That would have given you some sense of life here. It's somewhat liberal here, but also conservative in parts - this is Mississippi and the Deep South. And some sororities are more conservative than others.
4) Whether you fit into your new chapter is unknown until you're here. I've seen girls fit in so well that you would think they had pledged their new chapter and others who didn't. It's a personality fit.

Welcome to Ole Miss! I hope you have a happy and easy time with transferring. Just remember to give it some time for Oxford to feel like home. When you transfer, there's always an adjustment period that can sometimes feel lonely. However, being in a sorority should give you a soft landing. I've enjoyed my classes here and my involvement in greek life. I'm glad you're here.
