rushing without rec letters??
by: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Hi I come from an area where sororities are not super popular and long story short I have absolutely no alumni connections or legacy or anything. I know it is possible to email local alumni and ask them for a rec despite them being complete strangers but is that completely necessary?? Is it possible to rush without any letters or connections and if I do am I guarnteed for failure??

For many sororities, you will not be invited back if you don't have a recommendation. Not all chapters, but many. Do you want to take the risk? Do you want us to think you didn't think sorority membership was worth the effort?
Unless you are from another part of the world, there are PLENTY of sorority alumnae in your life. You just haven't asked. Honestly, it sounds like being in a sorority just isn't that important to you.

hey girl! I come from the same type of situation. I know how hard it is to get recs especially when you come from a place where sororities aren't as prevalent or the local alumni don't have a lot of members who were a part of sororities here. I only could find three rec letters, and all three of those houses dropped me the first round. Rush will work out how it is supposed to, but I would keep trying to find recs. However, don't worry if you don't get all of them, as it is not a deal breaker for some sororities.

Many houses will drop you immediately without recs; some won't as the poster above said - although the fact that those houses dropped her even with recs doesn't mean you should not get them. Houses cut hundreds of girls each round, especially at first, so it's best to do everything you can to get them.
If you're not willing to get them, that could indicate to some houses that you weren't as serious as other girls, since many are in the same situation as you but do get them.
OM recruitment is super competitive which is why it's so important to get recs. Otherwise, you put yourself at risk with many houses, especially the top and mid-tier chapters. Yes, I know people on here will dispute the tier thing but it's true that many of those houses are stricter about recs.
