transferring sorority chapters

by: midwest transfer

Okay so I'm a current freshmen really considering transferring to Ole Miss next year, but I really want to stay in my sorority. I was wondering how exactly to go about that? Also what are the chances of the current members not accepting me? I'm from the Midwest and I know the Deep South runs a bit differently, but that's part of why I'm interested in transferring. If anyone has any idea how they think the transition would go please let me know.

I'm honestly not as worried about the adjustment, I actually tend thrive on change. You shouldn't be worried about it either because it's usually a good chance to learn about yourself honestly. I'm originally from Indiana and I'd rather not saw what school I go to but there's a mix of Midwest and Northeast kids there.

You should check with your sorority's chapter at OM. Some require that members vote on any transfer to determine if they will affiliate them. If sorority life is really important to you - and it is really big here - visit the chapter to see what you think. What's good at one school isn't necessarily good at another so you might not like the chapter here or feel that it's a fit for you. Also keep in mind that many friendships will be established from those who pledged together so that can be a challenge although that's not always an obstacle. Also some sororities here are very Mississippu and Deep South girls so depending on which one you're in, that's a consideration.

Have you visited OM? Even with a lot of OOS students (most
are from Southern states) it is still a fairly conservative place. And there are out of region students who do fine.

It's good that you're asking these questions. Good luck with your decision!

I haven't visited yet but I plan to if I decide this is the move I want to make. I figured just shoot the chapter president an email and see. It'll definitely be a culture shock but I'm actually kind of looking forward to that if I do transfer.
