variable

Will rush next year be as harsh as I heard it was this year?? I saw where variable quota really messed some stuff up and I'm curious

Variable quota was tough in that so many cuts were so heavy right up front, but truth be told, I think it worked. The pledge classes for each and every house were awesome. Get your head in a place where you can go in open minded and you will be fine. Go in thinking you belong only here or deserve only there will ruin your shot.

Variable quota was tough this past year. I don't think it necessarily changed the 'tier' structure and I also think there were some good quality recruits that were somehow cut through the process, but I do think the recruitment process did need a shake up. I also agree that, with a very few exceptions, the pledge classes were awesome this year for every sorority. The Variable quota helped the two new sororities to get established which is a good thing. Ole Miss actually needs another sorority or two so getting these two news one in a more stable position is good. Sometimes change is painful and variable quota came close to being painful at times, but hopefully as time goes on pain will be gain.

They will still be using variable quota this year and continue to use it until the house sizes even out a bit more, so rush will probably be similar to last year. The biggest thing it to just go in with an open mind and know that if you get cut from a house it isn't personal, they just did not have room for you based on the quota they were given.

I think variable quota was harder for the 'Mississippi/Memphis' high school sororities. With the reduced recruitment numbers, those sororities had very little room left after their Spring parties. Which then meant there were many girls (even legacies) who were recruited by other sororities. That did cause some heart break for those girls who had probably spent their entire high school years dreaming of joining a certain sorority with all their friends. That's a big deal for people who will spend their entire lives in Mississippi/Memphis and their college sorority defines their very existence. However, those of us from out of state are usually here for college and not the sorority - so it was a little easier for us.
