will i fit in?
by: caliI'm debating coming to Ole Miss from CA. I visited and love the campus and culture. I'm conservative by nature and a little tired of all the bs in CA and look forward to getting out of CA for college. One of the things I want to do is rush a fraternity but I'm concerned that I will be looked at differently because I'm not from the south. Please be honest, will that hold me back and cause doors to be closed to me or will I have the same chance as others to be accepted to all chapters? Thanks for any insight.

yeah it's maybe not as likely youll have just as high of chances at certain ones but at the same time if you get your foot in the door and meet a few guys and they like you enough theyll take you just gotta give a great first impression to start with so I'd say you'll still have a decent chance at any if they feel you'll fit in but probs higher chances at others, so I wouldn't give up hope!

i think 10-20% would even consider you. the rest is an automatic no. you wouldn't get into a top frat. and your experience here is based on your frat pretty much. you'll find out noone talks to anyone else outside of frats.
if you are a cool guy than sure you'll get into a frat (won't be a top frat). but honestly you are downgrading yourself by coming here.
and the stuff you like about here, is all over rated. ask anyone here. it's great during a visit or two, most days here are boring af. people just live fake lives on instagram, you need to come here during a regular school week, not look on instagram

Probably a 5% chance with the more traditional Mississippi/Deep South fraternities, but up to 80% with the fraternities that are predominately out of state members. The Mississippi/Deep South frats will have a few token Northern/Western members but those are probably strong legacies with connections. I think you would have several to choose from if you are interested and make an effort to make some personal connections.
