How many people have been to other schools and seen their greek life, and where does Ole Miss stand in comparison? Better or worse?

I have a friend who is at a small liberal arts school in the northeast and we've actually talked a lot about this. And their greek life is an entirely different experience all together. Fraternities have houses, sororities don't, although groups of seniors will rent off campus houses together. But I have to say their rush sounds tough and kind of hard. For one, it's not until sophomore year. So freshman year is all about getting to know people and your reputation. You know how people say don't go crazy before rush? Imagine that feeling for an entire year. The chapters are small, about 100 people. So quota is between 20-30. She says that of the 6 chapters on campus,1 is weak, the other 5 are all really strong but different. The partiers are in one, the athletes are in another, stuff like that. So she says by sophomore year, people know where they want to be and where they would fit in best but it's only 25 spots so it gets intense. She says it's hard to not take rush personally when it's such a small campus and you spend a year getting to know them. But she says not many people drop, they stay active all 4 years. I haven't been to visit. It sounds different. Not better or worse, but just completely different.

to OOS - what school is that? Sounds super intense, can't imagine being under that pressure for a year.

Don't answer which college that is. You'll just send every greekrank troll to their page.

I know of some smaller liberal arts schools that are similar to what you described. Greek life dominates them because they are small and a lot of them are in the middle of nowhere so Greek life is the only social life.

I've seen Greek life at LOTS of schools, from some on the west coast, to Texas, to across the South, and Ole Miss has one of the best Greek systems by far. I'd say USC on the west coast was the most impressive, in terms of houses, but it has a very different feel. UT's had lots of tradition, but the Austin city campus made things weird. If we're talking about schools with similar systems, I'd say the only one that holds a candle to Ole Miss is Bama. South Carolina has a pretty Greek village, but it's not as intense of a system or rush. Comparing to my friends at Alabama, our rush is more intense since they have so many more out of state girls, even though theirs is bigger numbers wise. Also, as much as we all love our houses and how Southern and traditional they are here in Oxford, I have to admit those houses in Tuscaloosa are insane. Especially the new ones, they're huge! Our Greek system is even more Southern, but theirs is, as much as I hate to admit it, quite impressive. But pan love for al the wonderful sororities here, wouldn't want to go anywhere else.

I've been to bama and have to agree their greek life is pretty insane! Their houses are massive and parties are fun but there's just something about Ole Miss's that is so much better. That feeling of knowing a lot of people and feeling like your in a house full of friends at a frat party is so much better than a house full of strangers.
