going out before rush
by: ???I've heard some people say you should go out a lot before rush to meet actives and make connections, but then other people have said not to go out at all before rush because it looks bad. I know you shouldn't get sloppy drunk or act dumb but is it okay to go out the first few weeks?

Part of going to college is getting out and making new friends. The first few weeks are kind of weird, you are in a new place, and if you are away from home for the first time you will probably feel homesick. So you are definitely going to want to go out and keep busy (and of course study). I didn't focus on just meeting sorority types, I wanted to meet people from my classes and around my dorm. I probably could have done a better job of working the connections but it was all too new and I didn't actually know anyone when I came here. I went through rush and ended up in the perfect sorority (for me) so in my case I wouldn't do anything different. My only advice is don't do anything that would reflect negatively like getting sloppy drunk or sleeping around. And don't talk negatively about any Sorority (no matter what how many idiots get on here and bash each other). Basically yes, don't act dumb.
