odds a midwesterner could join a frat at ole miss
by: ConnorFrom Kansas City metro (Kansas)and pretty laid back about North/South differences. Parents recently transferred to Memphis. Considering Ole Miss for undergrad. How much does not being a true southerner hamper ones chances of getting a bid? Are Midwesterners still considered Yankees? Thanks!

There are lots of out of state girls involved in Ole Miss Greek Life. Several Sororities are made up mostly of out of state students (mine included). I have Sisters from St. Louis, New York, California, Florida, etc. If you decide to go through Rush you will probably want to give the Sororities that are considered the 'lower' tiers a serious look, they are the most diverse and more accepting of girls coming from different areas of the country. Make sure you get recommendation letters to ALL the Sororities.

No, you are not a Yankee. Yankees are from the northeast. From the midwesterners I know, y'all are a lot more like southerners in attitude, temperament, and manners than those from the north. Yes, there are a few houses that are pretty much strictly deep south, but you will find a house. You might be surprised how well you fit in in the South.
