chances of getting in a sorority as sophomore?
by: helpI am currently a freshman, and I went through rush during the fall. I am from OOS and, unfortunately, where I'm from, getting Letters of Support and Recommendations are not important for rush. Therefore, I was not prepared for rush at all, and I got cut from most of the sororities on the first day. By the end of rush week, I had two houses left, and I got the one house that I did not want, so I dropped. I was considering rushing in the fall next year as a sophomore, but I have heard that once a sorority drops you, they drop you for good. Is this true? Also, if I did rush again, I could get a lot of LOS and Recs because both my parents and a lot of aunts and uncles went to Ole Miss and know a lot of important people that I could get recs from. I also have made a lot of friends from every sorority. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

It's hard to rush as a sophomore. Some houses have once cut always cut. Some won't like that you dropped from another sorority. And some, your friends may really pull for you but it just wont be enough.
And if you had all of those ole miss family connections, why didnt you tap into them the first time? Or was it a matter of you didn't realize what you needed to do and didnt have time to prepare?

Each Sorority has their method of selecting their PNMs. Some are more heavily influenced by their alumni than others. Sororities that are predominantly Mississippi girls tend to have more alumni involvement. If you are planning to re-rush as a Sophomore you will need to be ready. I would get recommendations to every Sorority (same for Freshman) and if you are lucky enough to get a bid take it. I don't know if any Sororities are doing a Spring COB, but you just check with Panhellenic for that information.

Be aware that the chapters doing spring COB will likely include the 2 houses that you turned your back on during fall rush. And they will remember that you chose to NOT be Greek at all, rather than pledge their house. You dropped them without even getting to know them. They may forgive that choice, but I wouldn't count on it. You may have passed on your only chance to be in a sorority.

Lol. I never once said that being in a sorority was more important than academics. I was simply stating that I would like to be in a sorority, so I was asking for advice. By no means did I say anything about transferring schools for something as small as a sorority.

Do you know which sororities won't take you after you've been cut? And about dropping, I never accepted the bid or anything, so I don't know if that still counts or not.
I honestly had no idea about how important letters of support and recs were. From what I understood, it was only necesarry to have two recs for each house, but it still wasn't recommended. Also, the women that I got my recs from were not Ole Miss alumni. If I would have known how important that was, I could have had outstanding recs and letters of support.
