questions about cob

by: COBs

How many COBs do the sororities typically give out (the ones that are participating)? If you were hoping for a COB how long do you think you would have to wait if you DO get one? Will you be informed if the sororities participating in COB don't want you? Sorry for all the questions, there is no info about COB anywhere! Any info would be great!

You need to contact the Panhellenic office

Honestly, we don't have answers for you. If a sorority is not at house total, I've seen some numbers floating around, but don't know it they are true, then they have the option of offering bids to anyone who did not already sign a bid card. Even girls who did not participate in formal recruitment can receive a bid. Sororities do not have to offer anyone a bid, but it is a good way to build their numbers.

They can hold informal events, they can just ask their friends if they would like to be a member, there is any number of ways they can bid new members. As long as they don't go over house total.

Contact Panhellenic and ask which houses may be holding events. They might have a list of girls interested in bids that they will share with houses under total.

If you are holding your breath and waiting for a bid from a top group, breathe.
If they wanted you, you would have already gotten a bid.
Sororities that do COB aren't the top ones.
Some of the top ones occasionally do COB after Christmas, but they already know who they want. You don't just sign up and get a call.

So you're saying that if they wanted to COB 50 girls, they would have done it already? And if they wanted to give me a bid through COB they would have given it to me by now and I shouldn't expect to get one at this point? And I'm not hoping to get one from top houses, I'm talking about the ones that haven't reached their totals.

If you are sitting there waiting for a phone call out of the blue, you are wasting your time. If you contacted Panhellenic and followed their instructions, or reached out to the sororities not yet at total and let them know of your interest, then it's not out of the question for them to reach out after the dust has settled.

I would say that they will probably wait until next semester as the sororities have already held pledge pinning ceremonies and pledge meetings and some even pledge retreats by now.
