rich girls go to top tier houses?
by: MillieIs the term Rich Girls from Mississippi an oxymoron? It is the poorest state in the nation...worst education...so aren't the so-called top tier houses kidding themselves. Seems to be the so-called NEW houses are actually getting the higher quality pledges. Tell Ole Miss to stop accepting so many out of state students...oh but then the "wealthy" in-state girls wouldn't have a school to go to. Out of state girls pay the tuition for all of you...guess you would need math skills to figure that out.

I feel bad about this post. I'm an Out Of State Girl who went through Rush last year and ended up in a Bottom Tier Sorority. Noone ever asked me my financial status, but I'm sure not "poor". And my parents are footing all of my bills - so maybe that makes me a "wealthy" girl. Funny thing - I couldn't be happier in my "bottom tier" sorority. I think I just didn't have the connections to get into a top sorority . . . but my pledge class was full of smart, funny, beautiful girls without connections just like me. These are girls who came to Ole Miss looking for something "different" than what we experienced. I came to Ole Miss because I got into a competitive top ranked program full of in-state and out-of-state students. Even though I pledged a bottom tier sorority, I think it worked out perfectly and I ended up in the exact place I should have. I think if I had ended up in a top sorority, it would have been hard on me because all those girls already had the connections I didn't. I'm glad to be where I am and it's not a bottom sorority to me!

I came to Ole Miss from OOS because I wanted something different than high school. I feel sorry for the girls who are brain washed into thinking that if they don't get into KD, Tri Delt or Chi o they are worthless . College should be about growth and making new friends. How boring to only be with your friends/enemies from high school.

It's not about wealth. That's what the make believe top tier wants you to believe. There is more wealth from the oos girls. Compare ACT scores of oos and in state. Many oos girls are getting scholarships which makes the cost lower than staying in their own state. Their ACT scores bump up the Ole Miss average. Plus, schools like Texas, the California state schools and many of the big ten schools are difficult to get into. But don't bad mouth the education at Ole Miss because if that's the way you feel, you shouldn't have come here.

reminder: mississippi does not want to better itself. mississippi just wants to make you feel excluded and make themselves look great.
sorority rankings are according to mississippi's. they like ot keep their houses in state, good for them.
same thing with the state, they don't like change and well look how that worked out...they are pretty much dead last in every thing

This post is one of the dumbest things I have seen. It is an error in reasoning known as the ecological fallacy because you cannot take a characteristic of a state (or any aggregate level data) and generalize it to individuals. There are plenty of wealthy families in Mississippi, particularly rich white families. Furthermore, the tax payers of Mississippi help fund public universities, like Ole Miss. I suggest you actually pay attention in your college courses (if you are even in college), as well as check that negative attitude before you cross the state line and enter Mississippi.
