dropped

by: PNM

After lots of consideration I made the decision to drop after only having 1 house left and after going in with an open mind kept not being able to picture myself there. Should I contact Panhellenic about being interested in COB?

The houses that will be doing COB are going to be the houses you weren't "interested in" including the one house you had left when you dropped. The "top tier" and "middle tier" houses won't be doing COB. You probably ended your chances of joining any sorority at Ole Miss, honestly. There was one house that wanted you and now even they won't be wanting you. Yes even the "bottom chapters" are picky. Too bad, so sad.

The above responder just doesn't understand your feelings and in my opinion was a bit rude! Bottom houses released girls this year and girls should be able to drop them without backlash as well.

Yes, contact Panhellenic. Let them know you are interested in COB. Yoy just never know what could happen!

There's a house that wants you while the others did not. All sororities are essentially the same on the inside anyway.

It's super rude for you to insinuate that houses didn't want somebody. You don't know how hard it was for sororities to have to make such huge cuts! In my sorority we had actives crying every single day over girls we were forced to cut.

WE wanted them! Trust me we wanted some girls so bad that we hadn't actives walk out of rounds to go comfort their friends.

I'm glad you made the right decision for you. COB is to get houses to total. Most sororities are over total. Only the smallest few sororities will even be allowed the option to participate. My guess is the same ones you think you're too good for.

So those houses were your chance to go Greek. I know it's a disappointing process but things only get harder as a sophomore.

Ole Miss is a great school with a lot to do. Unless you have an attitude change about acceptable houses though, it won't be Greek life for you.

No you don't think you are too good for a house

More than one may be COB

Quit bashing girls who drop!!!! They have choices and rights just like the houses that cut!!!!!! They have the right to make the best choice for themselves .... Geez

There is a difference between bashing and being honest.

This is maybe the most cut throat recruitment in the country, and one of the schools where being greek matters the most.

So, when girls are dropping and they say they don’t want to be greek, that’s fine. There’s plenty to do at Ole Miss without going greek. But when they start asking questions like, “Should I COB?” they seem to be indicating that they still want to be greek, and in which case in virtually all circumstances, your chances are never better as a freshman.

COB, girls join every year through this channel but it is only for the smaller chapters. XO and DDD are not magically going to COB you. The chapters that COB are the same chapters that variable quota is designed to give huge pledge classes (which honestly may even mean they may not COB, or not as many girls, as usual). So when girls are saying “I can’t see myself joining this chapter, should I COB?” it’s usually the same chapter. 99% of the time.

Sophomores? It is so much harder. Think connections matter when you are a freshman? Unless you are one of the most accomplished girls on campus holding high profile achievements that would be out of range for most frehman, with perfect GPA, AND with multiple actives calling you a close friend, your chances of doing better as a sophomore are virtually impossible. You’ll get asked back to the same chapters…maybe…but many of those may cut you this time around. Most girls do worse, not better.

Most girls are not bashing. They are trying to give these girls the wake up call that it is these specific chapters for them or nothing for the rest of their time at Ole Miss. What they want to do with this truth is up to them, but ignoring it just prolongs the heartbreak.

Anybody who tells you otherwise does NOT know the system here.
