suicide

I don't know why suiciding is so bad or how it effects how your #1 lists their bids. Would it not be the same as only having 1 house to list? Such a gamble.

The outcome is really the same as far as I'm concerned. Especially if you won't go to your least preferred house. Either way, there's no guarantee. So the results would be the same.
Scenario-1: you list both houses, knowing you won't go to house #2. House number #2 picks you. You decide to drop. No house.
Scenario-2 You only list one house. (Your number 1 favorite). They don't pick you. No house.
To me, there's no difference.

There's really only a one way benefit to not suiciding, and that is in the event that both houses cut you, you could be added back. The only harm in suiciding is if you get cut from the 1 house you listed, there's no adding you back. I think...

SIP is a bad idea unless you are okay with never being in a sorority.
- If you suicide and don't get your house you are not eligible for a snap bid, which, though rare, does happen.
- If you list both houses and are offered a bid and do not accept it then you are not getting any house this year. No COB, no snap, nothing. You will have to wait until next year to go through recruitment again, at which point your odds of getting any house are close to zero.
- If you list both houses and you are not high enough on either's bid list before they each reach quota, then you will be added back in as a quota addition. A PNM in this situation is considered first for her #1 house until that house reaches house total, then for her #2.
- If you get a bid, any bid, take it and give your new pledge class your very best effort. You will be surprised how you will fall in love with your new house.

This was very helpful @This. So my chances of getting the house I do want are all around better if not suiciding the one I don't want, right? Thanks for taking the time to explain that!

What she said is true, but depending on the houses... If you have a big old house and that is first choice Nd a new house as second.... You have a much smaller chance of getting your first house. Simple because their bid list is shorter.... Their quota may be 100

The new house may have a quota of 150. So just understand you need to be OK with your second choice.

Don't worry about it. There's nothing you can do with the statistics except to worry one way or the other. If you are a PNM, take your bid, wherever it is, and don't look back. Your new member class will be filled with so many awesome girls! If you are an active, welcome the girls running to you and don't look back. Your new member class will be filled with so many awesome girls!

Suiciding is not the same as only having 1 pref invite. If you have only one pref invite, you are guaranteed a bid to that house either because your name was on the list before quota filled, or as a Quota Addition because you maximized your options and listed every pref house you attended on your card.

Girls who SIP do not maximize their options and therefore it quota fills before their name is on the bid list, they go bidless. And are ineligible for Quota Additions or snap bids (if another house didn't make quota but was interested in bidding the pnm).
