COB will not be decided until after pref. It is depended on if the chapters make quota. Honestly despite cuts it still might not occur. These chapters want to bring down their chapter totals since they are busting at the seams. Depends on how close they are to chapter total instilled by Panhellenic.

COB has nothing to do with quota. It has to do with total. Once total is reset after recruitment is over, any chapter under the new total will be able to COB up to it. Since the reason for this new effed up quota system is to balance chapter sizes, likely the only ones who will be able to COB are the ones that are already struggling and smaller who no one wanted during regular recruitment.

It's possible that the chapters who had the smaller quotas may be able to snap bid a couple up to quota, but that happens between bid matching and bid distribution and will be on the down low. Only a few people will know if someone had to snap bid or who the snaps were.

In other words, don't count on either of these possibilities to get into a chapter that's already cut you/stronger chapter than those you have left by dropping out of recruitment. Although there's a remote possibility there might be a few bids given out via snaps and COB, the chances you'll be one of those special girls in a sea of other girls looking to do it will be about zero.

Also, the chapters will likely not discuss which girls they aregetting COB. That will be a decision for leadership based on lists the chapter already had created during voting after rounds.

Snap bids are only an option for chapters that did not match to quota. I wouldn't count on them ever as an option.

If you are trying to think of a way to get a different group than you have on your current list, this isn't it.

Go into pref with an open mind. Look around at the girls with you at the parties. Stop worrying about what Greek rank says about a group. ALL are really good chapters. It can be up to you whether you have a good membership experience.

Good luck.

Snap bids are made to get a sorority to quota.

If quota for a house is, say, 100, and only 97 girls match up, the house can quietly snap bid 3 girls to meet quota.

If the house makes quota or has QAs, they cannot give a snap bid.

Snap bids are usually used by very high ranking chapters, who have tiny margins of error and can only invite a couple PNMs to pref and therefore have a higher chance of missing quota IF the other top chapters beat them in rush. OR they are given out by the smallest chapter on campus if they have a hisotry of not making quota.

Both situations are honestly fairly rare. Sororities aren't talking about it because until they get their pledge class numbers back, they won't know if its even an option. And even then most of the chapter won't really know it happened, because it'll just be the top rush team making a "snap" judgment, hence the name.

The only eligible girls are those that dropped out or were release from recruitment.

Don't count on it, and if it happens, very few people will actually know about it.

What the hell does that mean?
"Snap bids are usually used by very high ranking chapters, who have tiny margins of error and can only invite a couple PNMs to pref and therefore have a higher chance of missing quota IF the other top chapters beat them in rush. Nothing in that statement makes sense - very high ranking chapters - can only invite a couple PNM's to pref - no no no no no no.

I thought if you quit recruitment then you are not eligible for a snap bid...

It's true.

The top sororities are allowed to invite less girls to pref than middle chapters based on past return rates. Same as with every round.

If you have three top sororities, and two of them are doing better in rush than the other one, there is a ton of cross preffing between those three. That puts the third at risk of not getting quota if they can only invite 200 to pref and other houses can invite 300-400, and most of their 200 go to other chapters. There's more of a safety net for middle and bottom houses who invite a ton more to pref.

This is why sororities get all crazy and drop girls they just "think" are going to another top house.

Lots of girls are getting cut, but that won't result in spots being left open. Cuts are being made based on projected return rates and estimated quota until final quota is set. Sororities aren't being told to make hundreds of cuts and then oops! Panhellenic finds out at pref that everyone is "short" 25 girls and need to make snap bids on Bid Day. No one knows until everything is over and they don't make quota if they can, or will, snap bid. With a true snap bid, no one but the PNM and a few at the sorority even know because it happens before bids are passed out. Snap bids are not COB.

If everyone is short 25 girls at pref, they would just lower quota, not have everyone snap!

It will be EXTREMELY unlikely that any chapter does not make quote. So, no snap bids. Do NOT rely on this as a way to join a sorority at Ole Miss because it will be extremely rare.

If in the matching process of PNMs to chapters, a chapter does not match to quota, they have the opportunity to offer a snap bid. The window for snap bids is from the time the matching occurs right up until bids are given out. One that happens, snap bidding ends. PNMs who have participated in the recruitment process or did not receive a bid in bid matching are eligible for snap bids. Chapters who didn't match to quota or total can still give out bids once the window closes, but it is then called Continuous Open Bidding or COB. A chapter can give bids out at any time after recruitment in COB if they are under total or did not match to quota. This is the process used to allow chapters that are smaller in size to reach average or median chapter size.
