I'm seeing a lot of the issues on here that we experienced with variable quota. People are mad they are facing so many cuts, chapters are mad they are cutting more girls faster, people are blaming certain chapters or Panhellenic for changes, and PNMs are already talking about dropping or being unhappy with their choices. I don't know who wrote this but I found it very informative and a good perspective on hurt feelings. Not everything will apply because your rush is still happening and our page was COVERED with upset alums and moms who had daughters cut. Our PNMs also weren't told about the quota so they were very confused. But here it is anyway. I hope everyone takes the time to read it and really consider the points this person made. The OP said they were a senior in a top house at MSU.

I have a lot of feelings about this past rush. It was brutal on both sides because we were made to release more girls than normal. However, everyone's PCs were ~pretty much~ the same size as last year, OR LARGER. Read: MORE girls got bids this year than last year, they didn't have to accept but they were offered. All I've read on here since the end of pref has absolutely crushed me. I want to be really clear. I know what it feels like to get cut from houses. And I know what it feels like to cut girls that you love and cry and fight your own sisters over it. I am not shaming girls who are upset about how rush worked, were released, or who dropped on their own. But the attitudes some of y'all

The big difference is MSU lied to their PNM and did not explain the process and tried to force girls to sign bid cards!!!

I dropped and am so glad I did. And yes I got my panties in a wad. Ole miss has been honest to their PNM and tried to tell the truth and even though some of my friends are not getting their dream house they are finding a home! Way to go Ole Miss.

False. It was fully explained but not completely understood by PNMs and their mothers (who caused the most drama after recruitment). Yes, both MSU PNMs and sorority members were caught off guard with the huge impact variable quota brought to recruitment. You were not told a lie. Ole Miss PNMs and sorority members have had two months to discuss variable quota and to adjust to the change and it's still not easy.

This is true. Mine was told to sign the card bc snap bids were NOT happening. She was upset and confused and told to sign the card. Now we find out that if she decides this isn't the house for her, she has no options until next year because she accepted that bid, and it will be much harder to go through again as a sophomore. I don't think that was truthful or right, especially when the girls are put on the spot in a situation where they're broken down in tears and told to make the decision right then and there. . But sign it.

You still don't get it. PNM's who don't sign a card do not get snap bids. Snap bids go to girls who were released, not who dropped. You are thinking of COB, and 1) COB is not likely to happen in the large houses because they are too close to total, 2) if any large house decides to COB there will be very, very few girls they take and the houses already know who they would be, 3) the houses that need to get up to total would be the ones who COB like Theta, ADPi, Aphi. Your daughter's BEST option was to sign the card. There was no snap option for her and about a .01% chance of her getting a bid through COB at a different house than she already got. There are girls who were completely released who are wonderful and would be grateful to be in a house. You and your daughter need a better perspective.

I cannot post the link her but google Oklahoma State Panhellenic and then go to recruitment and at the bottom of the page is a link "decision making and mutual selection" Gives a pretty good overview of the process and helps answers questions. May not totally be the way Ole Miss ran things but helps.
