was rush a mistake?
by: Home-lessI think I may have made a mistake rushing. I keep getting cut from house after house and nothing I do seems to make an impact. Everyone keeps talking about finding their "home" but I don't think I'll even make it to pref. This was supposed to be a fun experience but every round I feel worse. Anyone else feel like this?

This year is brutal. We hate it as much as y'all. We have actives heartbroken because their cousins, sisters, best friends, etc are getting cut. This new quota is miserable and please know we wish it wasn't like this! It sucks for y'all and for us! You are not what sorority you are in and remember you are so much more than Greek letters!

At the end of the day you don't know if you were cut this year because of variable quota or if you would have been cut any other year too. It sucks because it seems like everyone has a good resume, recs, and grades, but at the end of the day someone has to be cut. All it takes is 1 chapter. You are not the only person experiencing this so your pledge class, even if it's in a house that you don't love right now, will be made up of equally as great girls. It won't matter what letters you have, you'll experience greek life at the best school for it. Stick with it and know actives are having a hard time with this as well and in the end we just have to accept i and make the most of whatever happens.

It's easy to blame variable quota, but I hate to say that what you call the top chapters are still keeping PNMs, just not you. If they thought you were all that, you would still be there. You have no way of knowing why you were cut. Waiting to rush again isn't like retaking a test and hoping for a better grade. It's out of your control, and if they found a reason to cut you that had nothing to do with variable quota, they will cut you again.
The sororities that want you back know you better than you know them. They don't keep inviting you back because they want #s to fill their house...they want YOU!

Even if panhellenic was not trying variable quota this year, there would still be a huge difference in the numbers the stronger recruiting chapters could invite back versus the weaker recruiting chapters. Variable quota has made the difference greater this year but trust me, there would still be a difference. Ask someone going through in a difference state.
Even when each chapter is going to pledge the same quota, the stronger chapters need fewer PNMs attending their parties to reach that magic quota number. That is why they have to release heavier. It is not fair to the PNMs to have the stronger groups inviting tons back when they can't pledge all of them. They are required to make certain release to allow the women they are not as interested in to then attend parties at chapters where they do have a chance of pledging.

This post makes me so sad! This is panhellenics fault! This variable quota system is destructive and cruel. Forcing large chapters to cut more than smaller chapters. Then smaller chapters want to be "selective".
Over half the girls going through recruitment will end up in a bottom house this year. I would love to be politically correct and say there are no bottom houses at ole miss, but this is simply not true.
This destructive system is going to bring down our entire Greek system! Whoever made this decision should be fired!
