snap bids
by: CuriousSo with all of these ridiculous cuts I've heard that there's a chance that some houses will give snap bids. What are they and how to they work? Also who would they give them to? Girls that they cut early on or girls they cut later?

When a house does not make quota, they are allowed to offer bids to any girl who was previously released from recruitment and would otherwise go bidless.
Panhellenic will contact the sorority who has not made quota and ask them if they would like to give out any "snap" bids. If the sorority do want to offer a bid to a girl who was previously released, they will let Panhellenic know BEFORE the bid day ceremony.
The girl being offered a snap bid will receive a call from her gamma chi the morning of bid day letting her know that a chapter offered her a bid, and instruct her to show up for bid day ceremonies along with everyone else. She will not know who offered her a bid until she opens her envelope along with everyone else.
Nobody is the wiser, not even the actives. She runs to her new sorority along with everyone else.
This year, with variable quota being so new, there could be a fear that even the top houses will cut too deep and not have enough girls left to make quota. Let's say a top house prefs 200 girls, and quota is 100. Panhellenic is assuming that half the girls they pref will mark them 1st on their cards. If they lose more than 100 girls to other sororities, they will not make quota, and can offer snap bids to fill in. Honestly, this could happen! Especially if they cut so deep to alleviate the need for quota additions.

Theoretically, if quota additions are not allowed this year, girls may actually be cut after pref, and chapters who don't make quota could then "snap" them up...
