guaranteed bids?
by: Bid Girl
Are bids guaranteed if you go to two final houses and rank both?
What happens if you only get one house for pref? Do they try to find a house (under quota) to take you even if they cut you earlier?
Thanks.

I've read conflicting info about this on different GR boards.
Some are saying that there's a small chance you can be released after pref if you have just one or two houses left and your school/Panhellenic doesn't explicitly state that they guarantee bids to those who make it to pref and maximize their options. I've also read posts from people claiming they know PNMs who got cut after pref at other schools this year.
On the other hand, I've read that if you rank all your houses after pref, you'll either be matched to quota or bidded as a quota addition, regardless of whether you have a full schedule or not.

Nobody is an expert with variable quotas. It's still too new. Yes, Ole Miss utilizes RFM, but even there, they do not explicitly guarantee bids. With variable quotas, we are hopeful that there will be just enough girls matching without having to go over with quota additions, if additions are even allowed this year. In the past, chapters have taken 20 or more quota additions. Putting a cap on membership sizes this year, I can't see quota additions as being fair in their efforts to level the playing field.
What might end up happening (just a theory) would be chapters that don't make quota may extend snap bids to those girls don't match before chapters reach quota.
For example, you pref DG and Pi Phi. You are low on both their lists, and they reach their respective quota's before either reaches your name.
Theoretically, you would go bidless. (in the past, they have allowed quota additions) But, this year say Theta or APhi does not make quota, they would be allowed to offer you a snap bid. In this case, your gamma chi could call you before bid ceremony and let you know that you did not match with either chapter you preffed, but another chapter offered you a snap bid. You would attend attend bid day same as everyone else, get a bid card, and run to the house written on your card.

I am a junior and when I went through rush if you Prefed 2 houses and ranked both of them you were guaranteed a bid. If you suicide and only rank your #1, you ARE NOT guaranteed a bid. If you only get asked back to 1 house for pref, you are guaranteed a bid to that house. That is how it was 2 years ago but who knows if it has changed

Maybe is NOT correct. That would be against national panhellenic rules. Using variable quota does not change ANYTHING in regards to snap bids or quota addition practices. If a PNM goes to two parties and lists both, she WILL get one or the other. Nobody EVER knows if they matched in the original quota or were a quota addition. All just know that they received a bid.

^^^^ This part is accurate "

If you rank ALL of your options through whatever Pref parties you are invited to, your chances of receiving a bid are 99.95%. This process is called RFM (Release Figure Methodology) and Ole Miss utilizes this Panhellenic process.
