what i wish i had heard before i rushed
by: ExperienceWhat I wish I had realized my freshman year was the tier of the sororities I was given bids to, did not mean I was that tier as a person. Actually, I wish most people would realize that. When people, usually guy friends, ask me why I joined the house I did, I tell them my experience of rush. They're usually surprised because they tell me I remind them of their friends in what's considered some of the top 4 houses. I hate hearing sororities getting torn down for tier, because it's nothing but a word of mouth. i vividly remember my friend during rush crying to me asking what she would do if she got cut from her top house, in which I told her she wouldn't be cut...her response to me embodied the idea of rush here, you can be a normal; kind, fun and exciting person and still make it into a "lower tier" sorority. She said "you can talk to anyone and be best friends with them and you didn't get the houses you wanted". I love my bottom tier sorority, because the girls in it are just like me..ones who the numbers didn't work out in our favor. i am not a lower tier girl, and neither is anyone else in my sorority, let alone any sorority on this campus. A sorority doesn't define a girls personality, especially at ole miss, because it's all about who you know
